Shelter Song
Temples Lyrics

One night
You came on over to me
Late night
We shared a drink or three
Night night
I read a proverb to you
That night
She left a room with a view

Take all the time
Time that you want to
Make up your mind
Mind how you go
Take me in time
Time to the music
Take me away to the twilight zone

Last night
We stayed up late in a dream
My oh my
We read a play with no theme
Lifetime
In which our love pursues
My time
In which I spend with you

Now I know the lonely days are gone
Dont you know that I can see
Like a summer day thats always long
We repel the wet of tears
As the shadows lighten up the day
Through the cons we laugh away
Like a windy day thats always wrong
We take shelter where we can

Last night
I came on over to you
My oh my
We played a song or two
Lifetime
I read a poem aloud
My time
I wrote a song for thee

Now I know the lonely days are gone
Dont you know that I can see
Like a summer day thats always long
We repel the wet of tears
As the shadows lighten up the day
Through the cons we laugh away
Like a windy day thats always wrong
We take shelter where we can

@alex prefontaine These guys are a new phsych rock band who got a contract, yes. This means they might make a career out of it. Why would they pass that up? The novelty of remaining an 'underground' band doesn't equal the lifestyle ambitions of becoming a professional musician.

I wonder how many baby boomers hear this on the radio and one starts saying "Hey! Do you remember that one?" And then they try to figure out what band from their childhood sang it until they drive themselves crazy?

Absolutely no Baby Boomer would mistake this for a song from their youth! Music from my generation was revolutionary and inventive. This tune sounds so generic and uninspired musically that it's the equivalent of paint-by-numbers compared to real art. In the '60s, the music was much more dynamic, exciting, inventive, and with vocals that were harmonically alive which is why such music became so popular. Temples - Shelter Song would never be picked for a 'B' side let alone played on the radio. Literally, listen to any pop song from the mid to late sixties and although it's in mono rather than stereo, it'll blow away anything that I've heard from Temple (with the singular exception of Colours To Life, which I love), Tame Impala, or MGMT. Laugh and belittle my Baby Boomer roots all you want to, that's okay it's a rite of passage, but don't believe for an instant that today's generation is contributing anything more than a rehash of greatness that's already well established, rather than creating authentic greatness. BTW, I'm not one who listens to just oldies but goodies. I still crave new music and new sounds. You're lucky to have YT where you can practically listen to any song ever made and have the benefit of discovering new artists and watch them grow. Want new music that blows away the typical stuff on YT? Try Denis Polic, or Astrogerry, or Ollibaboratories just to name a few musical geniuses if you have the guts. These unknown artists have composed better music than 75 per cent of what passes for music today! And they do it with passion and for free!
