The Letter
The Box Tops Lyrics

Gimme a ticket for an aeroplane
Ain't got time to take a fast train
Lonely days are gone, I'm a-goin' home
My baby, just a wrote me a letter

I don't care how much money I gotta spend
Got to get back to my baby again
Lonely days are gone, I'm a-goin' home
My baby, just-a wrote me a letter

Well, she wrote me a letter
Said she couldn't live without me no more
Listen mister, can't you see I got to get back
To my baby once-a more
Anyway, yeah

Gimme a ticket for an aeroplane
Ain't got time to take a fast train
Lonely days are gone, I'm a-goin' home
My baby, just-a wrote me a letter

Well, she wrote me a letter
Said she couldn't live without me no more
Listen mister, can't you see I got to get back
To my baby once-a more
Anyway, yeah

Gimme a ticket for an aeroplane
Ain't got time to take a fast train
Lonely days are gone, I'm a-goin' home
My baby, just-a wrote me a letter, my baby just-a wrote me a letter

@Gino Beneli son tiempos diferentes comparado a lo de hoy....
Eran otras ondas...
El ambiente... el baile...la musica... todo era totalmente diferente...
Nada que ver con hoy....
Simplemente yo quiero y deseo vivir esa epoca...
Vestirme de acuerdo a esa epoca..
Y no solo yo... si no la mayoría de las personas de ese momento
En fin.... son puntos diferentes...
Cada quien se queda con lo que mas le guste...y yo me quedo con esta epoca

What a song. A classic and a quality song. The Letter was sung brilliantly by the late Alex Chilton. I cannot believe that he was just 16 years old at the time, great voice. NO.5 in the UK in October 1967, No.1 in the US during September & October 1967. The Letter was America's 2nd best seller of 1967 and the UK's 53rd. A real classic by The Box Tops which has stood the test of time. It still sounds great 55 years on.

@Darkside Johnny I had no idea the guitar player on in a cada da vida was only 15 yo. Thank you for the info. I still have the original 45' . It was one of my favorite songs when I was a teen.

Alex Chilton was born in 1950 so he was 17 yo when thus song was released. A brilliant singer for his young age ! This was the kind of music my bff and I listened to when we were 13 yo. Still love this song at the age of 64.

Alex Chilton was a late member of Big Star

The singer was only 16!? That I didn't know! The guitar player on In A Gadda Da Vida (Iron Butterfly) was 15 or 16 when they recorded that song. I think the guitar player for Santana at Woodstock was only 16. I wonder how many people under 18 made it in the 60s?

He was 16 years old and what a voice! When this song first came out, I was convinced it was an older guy singing, so quite surprised when I learned years later he was only 16!!

@Michael G Moore Hi, 👋🏾 yup, I was 20 years old and just💖 music🎶🎶 So many of us during those times had different experiences, happy we're both here to enjoy our music, you take care ~

@Mary Salvi Don't laugh, I bought The Letter on a 45 in 1968 when I was discharged from the U.S. Army. I never knew he was only 16 because I never thought about it. I was 21 then so who paid attention when we were all too young to care.
