Their first single was "No, No, No", which was a minor local hit for them as the Brooktones, who soon formally broke up as national success proved elusive. Summers and Dennis left the group, forming The Gems with Mark Stevens and Alan Horowitz in 1960, while the remaining former Brooktones signed to Chancellor Records and added Jerry Sirlin and William Shunkwiler to the group.
Their first hit was "Bristol Stomp" (also known as "The Bristol Stomp"), a dance song followed by the similar hit "Do the New Continental". They released a series of poppy singles over the next few years, facing various levels of success. Len Borisoff left in 1965 for a solo career under the name Len Barry. Having provided staples of oldies radio, the band continued to tour for decades. Interesting, the Dovells notably performed as backup singers, with them being a part of the Chubby Checker hit "Let's Twist Again", and also played for then U.S. President Bill Clinton twice.

The Dovells Lyrics
The kids in Bristol are sharp as a pistol
When they do the Bristol Stomp
Really somethin when they join in jumpin
When they do the Bristol Stomp
Whoa, whoa they start spinnin every Friday night
They dance the greatest and they do it right
Well, it's the latest it's the greatest sight to see
The kids in Bristol are sharp as a pistol
(Whoa, oh, oh)
When they do the Bristol Stomp
(Whoa, oh, oh)
Really somethin when they join in jumpin
(Ah-ah-ah, whoa)
When they do the Bristol Stomp
Whoa, whoa it started in Bristol at a dee jay hop
They hollered and whistled never wanted to stop
We pony and twisted and we rocked with Daddy G
The kids in Bristol are sharp as a pistol
When they do the Bristol Stomp
(Whoa, oh, oh)
Really somethin when they join in jumpin
(Ah-ah-ah)
When they do the Bristol Stomp
(Duh-duh-doo)
It's got that groovy beat
That makes you stomp your feet
Come along and try
Gonna feel fine
And once you dance with me
You'll fall in love you see
The Bristol Stomp will make you mine
All mine
The stars are spinnin every Friday night
They dance the greatest if they do it right
But it's the latest it's the greatest sight to see
The kids in Bristol are sharp as a pistol
When they do the Bristol Stomp
(Whoa, oh, oh)
Really somethin when they join in jumpin
When they do the Bristol Stomp
It started in Bristol at a dee jay hop
They hollered and whistled
Never wanted to stop
We pony and twisted
And we rocked with Daddy G
The kids in Bristol are sharp as a pistol
When they do the Bristol Stomp
(Whoa)
Really somethin when they join in jumpin
(Ah-ah-ah)
When they do the Bristol Stomp
Feel so fine
Oh, got to say, please, mine
I'm talkin (when they do the Bristol Stomp)
Mine baby (kids in Bristol...)

When my aunt Rose first started living with my family she was amazed how quickly we took to her and how much
all of us loved her including my girlfriend Debbie. My mother decided to take us to an American Legion Hall that
had an oldies night. A lot of the people there were friends of my mother and she introduced us to everyone there
and we enjoyed meeting them as well. My girlfriend Debbie was a little scared but we assured her everything was
fine and not to worry!! As the evening progressed Rose was starting to feel better and started to have fun with us
kids which made my mother feel really good!!!! My mother and Rose started to dance with my mother's friends and
really burned up the dance floor!! My aunt Rose asked if we could dance and my mother said, " Now you will see my
children in action!!! My sister Eva danced with one person and really impressed everyone. I told Rose that, " Eva
is a little leery about dancing with anyone else other than her family!!! Eva got upset and my mother told her it was
okay and she would have her dance me because we are twins. This song came on and me and Eva were doing the
jitterbug and throwing a few other moves in as well!! Everyone including Rose "FREAKED OUT"!! as Eva and I were
Blowing up the dance floor!!! Then I danced with Rose and it blew her mind I was so good!!!! my mother told my aunt
Rose that I learned from Eva and we danced together as children that is why both of us are so good!!!!

Lyrics:
Chorus: The kids in Bristol are sharp as a pistol
When they do the Bristol Stomp
Really somethin' when the joint is jumpin'
When they do the Bristol Stomp
Whoa, whoa
They start the spinning every Friday night
They dance the greatest and they do it right
But, here's the latest, it's a crazy sight to see.
The kids in Bristol are sharp as a pistol
Oh, oh
When they do the Bristol Stomp
Whoa, oh, oh
Really somethin' when the joint is jumpin'
Ah-ah-ah
When they do the Bristol Stomp
Whoa, whoa, it started in Bristol at a DJ hop
They hollered and whistled never want to stop
We pony and twisted and we rocked with Daddy G
The kids in Bristol are sharp as a pistol
When they do the Bristol Stomp
Whoa, oh
Really somethin' when the joint is jumpin'
Ah-ah-ah
When they do the Bristol Stomp
Duh-duh
It's got that groovy beat
That makes you stomp your feet
Come on get in line
Gonna feel fine
And once you dance with me
You'll fall in love you'll see
The Bristol Stomp will make you mine, all mine.
The stars are spinning every Friday night
They dance the greatest, if they do it right
But here's the latest, it's a crazy sight to see

Feel so fine
Oh, oh, please be mine
I'm talkin'

"The Bristol Stomp" was written by Dave Appell and Kal Mann for the Dovels, who were originally an a cappella group from Philadelphia, PA. Re-recorded by Terry and the Appeljacks (Terry was the son of one of the song's authors, Dave Appell, but their version didn't make either the "Billboard's Hor 100" or "Bubbling Under" charts.) source: Wikipedia -- not a direct quote. I think Len Barry - frequent lead singer of The Dovells - has recently left us and is now enjoying royalty in Rock and Roll Heaven. My heart is broken. I always adored that man. I think his voice was the pure essence of rock and roll. Thank you, Mr. Barry, for all the great times!! Much love and condolences to your family.

@keri caye and Motown sued him and Madara & White the 3 songwriters listed on the 45 claiming it was a rework of The Supremes Ask Any Girl. After two years of litigation, they agreed to give the Motown writers 15% of the song's writing and publishing royalties. Holland-Dozier-Holland are listed as co-authors by BM

@Chad Albert It was such a fun, glorious time to be a teenager back then. For me, The Dovells were a big part of that. Thank you so much for sharing that beautiful memory with the rest of us, Chad.
