Alden and Jamie have a rich shared history, notably as former members of The Unicorns, one of Montreal’s crown-jewels in the early 20-oughts.
But, by the end of 2004, The Unicorns had broken up, leaving Alden and Jamie to go their separate ways. Five years and many adventures later, however, they found themselves back in “la vill...e aux cent clochers”, living only streets away from each other.
In the interim years, Alden had experienced a spiritual reawakening as a member of the Bahá'í Faith. Upon immersing himself in its scriptural tradition, he recognized an implicit musicality to the Writings and began composing melodies that would elucidate this lyricism. It seemed only natural to include his friend and collaborator Jamie in this experiment.
Practice sessions at the local Bahá'í center became a weekly occurrence, and were open to anyone who wanted to play. The regulars eventually crystallized into The Hidden Words, with Neah playing cello, Marie-Claire on violin and vocals, and the brothers Farr on second guitar and accordion. Ben then joined on the trombone in the Summer of 2011 while Eric left the city for studies.
As a band, we hope to make our music and lives an act of service to humanity and God. We have finished recording an album of new music, slated to be released in the Fall of 2011.
