Long Cool Woman
by The Hollies

Saturday night I was downtown
Working for the FBI
Sitting in a nest of bad men
Whiskey bottles piling high

Bootlegging boozer on the west side
Full of people who are doing wrong
Just about to call up the D.A. man
When I heard this woman singing a song

A pair of forty fives made me open my eyes
My temperature started to rise

She was a long cool woman in a black dress
Just a 5'9" beautiful 'n' tall
Just one look I was a bad mess
'Cause that long cool woman had it all

I saw her heading to the table
Well, a tall walking big black cat
Charlie said, I hope that you're able, boy
'Cause I'm telling you she knows where it's at

Well, suddenly we hear the sirens
And everybody started to run
Jumping under doors and tables
Well, I heard somebody shooting a gun

Well, the D.A. was pumping my left hand
She was holding my right
Well, I told her, don't get scared
'Cause you're gonna be spared
I've gotta be forgiven if I wanna spend my living

With a long cool woman in a black dress
Just a 5'9" beautiful 'n' tall
Well with just one look I was a bad mess
'Cause that long cool woman had it all
Had it all, had it all, had it all
Had it all, had it all, had it all (she had it all)

This was one of my son, Chris, favorite songs and I play it over and over again and think of him. Chris lost his life in a car accident when he was 21. . I am 81, but love, love the Hollies.

Peggy Kellar,

Your son isn't gone and he never will be. He lives in your heart and he will always be with you. Never forget this. I lost my own father of a massive heart attack while in my arms in 2005. Everyone tells me there wasn't anything I could've done to save him, but I still tried. I hope one day he will forgive me. I loved him so very much and I would give my soul just to have him back if even for an hour. Know your son loves you and he always will. Stay safe.

May your boy RIP.

Peggy Kellar, Sweet Peggy, I lost my mom 10 years ago, she raised 5 kids, I was the oldest, she was the classic mother hen, she took care of 5 kids so intensely, when I think back on the sacrifices she made for us, it makes me cry, she loved us so much, and we knew it. You and Chris still have that mother and son bond, it will never, ever be broken. It never good to lose a child, especially when you think you can relax a bit. I share your pain, and I hope you take peace today. I know you loved him. 🙏🙏🙏🙏

@Mark Smith Oh thank you Mark. As an 86 year old mother, I was sitting here feeling sorry for myself. I miss my boys so much. It helps when someone is thinking of me with kindness.

"Well the feeling was gone from my left hand, while she was holding my right. I told her don't be scared cuz you're gonna be spared....and I'm gonna be forgiven for now I'm living with a long cool woman."

The Prohibition era FBI agent saves her life while getting shot and not doing his job because his right hand should be shooting. He says the FBI should forgive him or anyone criticizing him for taking at least one bullet should forgive him, because they apparently became a pair.

During a lockdown men and women don't get to meet in such dramatic circumstances.

This song was chosen by a Wisconsin bar last night to celebrate reopening as if from Prohibition.
