The Mock Turtles
The Mock Turtles were a Manchester-based indie rock band, formed in Rochdale, who enjoyed some success in the early 1990s. Their signature tune was "Can You Dig It?"
Led by Martin Coogan, brother of television regular Steve Coogan, the band began to pick up attention around 1990, with tracks such as "Lay Me Down" and "And Then She Smiles" on the Imaginary label. It was "Can You Dig It?", however, which gained them wider attention. Originally a B-side to "Lay Me Down", the band's new record label, Siren, re-issued it with additional guitar work, and "Can You Dig It?" breached the Top Twenty in the UK singles chart.
The Mock Turtles, however, were unable to follow up the early success and were dropped by their label, remaining in limbo until; mobile phone network Vodafone used "Can You Dig It?" for an advertising campaign in 2003. This saw the band make a comeback. No less than eight new tracks were included on a new Greatest Hits album, together with older songs from their early 1990s peak.
The band have recently been quiet, but a return is not out of the question. Some of their songs have a slightly psychedelic edge, with intricate guitar riffs and keyboards.

Can You Dig It?
The Mock Turtles Lyrics
Can you understand me now
I'll get it through somehow
You won't ever get me down
Won't see me hanging around
Can you dig it (oh, yeah)
Can you dig it (oh, yeah)
Can you dig it (oh, yeah)
Can you dig it what I'm saying
One little kiss isn't anything
You keep insisting on everything
I won't be sad
Ah, someone turn the lights off
See how big and strong I've grown
I'm standing on my own
Can you dig it (oh, yeah)
Can you dig it (oh, yeah)
Can you dig it (oh, yeah)
Can you dig it what I'm saying
One little kiss isn't anything
You keep insisting on everything
I won't be sad
Ah, someone turn the lights off
Can you dig it (oh, yeah)
Can you dig it (oh, yeah)
Can you dig it (oh, yeah)
Can you dig it what I'm saying
One little kiss isn't anything
You keep insisting on everything
I won't be sad
Ah, someone turn the lights off
Can you dig it
Can you dig it
Can you dig it
Can you dig it

Total anthem for those mad days we thought would go on forever.

Yes they were, unfortunately it didn't go on forever

@Craig Sibley . What can't you say to people? Obviously, if you're online speaking to potentially thousands of people you cant see of don't know, it's common sense consider that you are public speaking. Do you feel you can't talk to friends and family like you used to?
Gary Unsworth
They didn't go on forever unfortunately, it turned to shit : (

Tell me you are fifty without saying you are fifty.

Great comment!
Karma Chameleon
One of the best tracks to Ever come out of MADchester, and that is saying something! A forgotten belter.
Witching Hour Tales
Ocean Colour Scene are a Birmingham based band. My mum used to run a cafe on the Coventry Road and they were regular patrons.

@Karma Chameleon Good to hear OMD get some love. A great, influential band that don't get due props from rock critics because they were synth-based.
Law Of Averages
@Karma Chameleon Ocean Colour Scene are NOT from Liverpool.
