The band was initially called The Government, but after going through member configurations in 2005, and during the period in which there was no official government in Lebanon, they proclaimed themselves "The New Government".
Although each of the band members has a different musical background, The New Government managed to find its trademark sound: a mixture of indie rock and post-punk with a retro touch reminiscent of the late 70s.
The New Government have released a first EP with Lebanese indie label Mooz Records, as well as a full length album in 2006 ("The New Government Strikes") and have performed at several gigs in Lebanese cities -(Beirut, Byblos, Deir el Qamar).
