Valerie Tryon, Pianist:
Valeria Tryon began her career at the age of twelve and went on to become recognized as one of Britain's finest pianists before emigrating to Canada in 1971. A prize winner at the Budapest Listz Competition, she also holds the Harriet Cohen Award for services to music and in 1987, was elected a Fellow of the Royal Acadamy of Music. Miss Tryon has played with leading orchestras in Canada, the United States and Europe. Her recordings have appeared on Pye, BBC Enterprises, Argo, Lyrita, Fidelio, CBC and Dorian labels. Miss Tryon is Artist-in Residence at McMaster University.
Gerard Kantarjian, Violinist:
As concertmaster, soloist and chamber musician, Gerard Kantarjian's career has taken him to the world's major concert stages. Following his graduation from the Curtis Institute, he won the Queen Elizabeth International Competition in Brussels, a prize which led to recitals and performances with numerous European orchestras. Early in his career, he was chosen by Leopold Stokowski as the first concertmaster with the American Symphony, and subsequently was concertmaster with the Toronto Symphony under Seiji Ozawa. Mr. Kantarjian has also performed for many seasons with the sympony orchestras of Detroit, Philadelphia and San Francisco, among others. Recent recitals have takrn him to Boston, New York and London's Royal College of Music.
Coenraad Bloemendal, 'Cellist:
A graduate of the Amsterdam Conservatory, Coenraad Bloemendal came to Canada in 1971 and quickley established himself as one of Canada's outstanding 'Cellists. Both as a soloist and as a founding member of the virtuoso chamber ensemble, Camerata, he has toured extensively in North and South America and in Europe. He has broadcast for CBC, BBC, Radio Nederland and Radio France, and recorded on the Centredisc, Crystal, Golden Crest, CBC and Dorian labels. His performances with Glenn Gould on CBC's Music of Our Time series led to a long collaboration and recordings of music specially written for him by Glenn Gould. Mr. Bloemendal has participated for many years at the Shaw, Stratford and Sharon Music Festivals.
