1)The Rivals were a UK punk band from Ramsgate, in existence from 1976-1981. Originally formed by childhood friends Mark Edwards (guitar, vocals) and Paul Leinster (bass, vocals), they soon added Mark Hebden (drums). The most well known lineup for the band, and the one that produced the vast majority of music that you can find from them, came about when Hebden left the band, to be replaced by Paul Daley on drums. This lineup of Edwards, Leinster, and Daley lasted until 1981, when Daley left the band, and went on to form electronic duo Leftfield along with Neil Barnes, where he would experience significant commercial and critical success. The Rivals continued for a very short time thereafter with Stan Gretsch on drums, but he would die in a car accident later that year and the band would dissolve.
In their time together, The Rivals released two singles: 1979's "Future Rights/Flowers, and" 1980's "Here Comes The Night/Both Sides". In 2007, a compilation of their material titled "...If Only" was released.
2) The Rivals : This band's only vinyl output was on "Sound on sound" which was run by a record shop [Rockin' records] based in South east London. The A side was Skateboarding in the UK, and the B side was "Top of the Pops". This Vinyl release was in 1978.
