Rise Up
The Skints Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning | Line by Line Meaning
Manor Park was in my arteries,
I guess after all the parties Walthamstowβs become a part of me.
And bunninβ all this Woodford Green has made me Chingford Hatch
a plan, so yeah man, I will be Leytonstoneβd but at least I will know where I stand
and I dunno about the Rio Grande, but Iβll tell you bout the River Thames,
and Iβve never been to Montego Bay, but Iβll tell ya about the Ilford ends.
And on the real fam, man I deal with friends and Iβll never put a Dagenham,
and yes I will go Barking mad if the people start attacking βem and I Wanstead on my own,
but they now there is a crew of us,
so watch out you donβt get Clapton Road,
if you man out to slew and duss, and big enough for the two of us, this town donβt seem to be,
been up and down the Lea Bridge strip like each and every week singingβ¦
The Skints we are gonna kill you inna this here time.
(We are the roughneck scouts)
The Skints we are gonna kill you inna this here time.
(Dis ah the wickedest sound)
The Skints we are gonna kill you inna this here time.
(We are the roughneck scouts)
The Skints we are gonna kill you inna this here time.
(Dis ah the wickedest sound)
So I bet you think youβre rougher than them, tougher than them,
see you dying to cry cause I play you like instrument, calling out the mandem,
cause man canβt understand them, I tread on the level because nowhere is where I canβt step.
I bet you think youβre knowing how to fight for survival,
living off the government and pray from the bible.
I bet you think you know about the roots but itβs no rival.
Iβm rocking the baroque, larking with Bach, Iβm analysing!
I tell them βRise up! Me ah listen good music inna evening, until the morning time.
Rise up!
Me ah dance ah Reggae music inna midnight, until the sun start shine.
Rise up!
Me ah listen good music inna evening, until the morning time.
Rise up!
Me ah dance ah Reggae music inna midnight, until the sun start shine".
In "Rise Up" by The Skints, the lyrics describe a strong sense of connection and pride to the different neighborhoods and communities of East London. The opening lines refer to Forest Gate, Manor Park, and Walthamstow, highlighting the personal connection the speaker has to these areas, and how they have become a part of him. The song goes on to reference other neighborhoods, such as Chingford Hatch, Leytonstone, and Dagenham, showing that the speaker is intimately familiar with the geography of the area.
While celebrating the diversity of East London, the lyrics also express a sense of pride in being a part of a crew of friends who support each other. The mention of "roughneck scouts" and "wickedest sound" speaks to the speaker's involvement in the music scene as well, highlighting the way that music can bring people together and create a sense of community.

The Skints have one of the most beautiful female singers I've ever seen. And her voice is mindblowing.

@KingBolonzo We got our Karens here too. It must be an universal and international phenomenon. We also got a number of different freaks, hipsters, rappers, fancy pants nutjobs, snowflakes who think they're so special. The bigger the city the bigger number of these weirdos walking around. I'm pretty happy I live in a smaller city with about 60000 of people. π

@KingBolonzo I like her style and natural looks. Very respectful kind of woman. In Poland we say that women like that are 'unicorns', because they are rare. π

So much prettier in person. I was like a foot away from her during the last concert. She was filming for the bands after performing. Great personality and vibe too. My wife waved to her and she actually took the time to smile and wave back. Also by far one of the best performances I have ever seen. Girl can play so many instruments so gooood! Whole band just oozes talent!

Trying to work this out I think it may be my favorate mix of ska and hip-hop both brang us all together no matter what the papers said how can you be a racist when the whole culture to begin with was kids in the 50s and 60s loving the reggae music and mingled in the dancehalls then created there own genre. Shows govenment has a big agenda going on it's a distraction for what I couldn't say but makes you think.
