Previous members and part-time contributors include Peyton Copes(bass) of Vacation, and Nick Flessa (sax), Anne Brant(clarinet), and, Adam Petersen(tabla, vocals), Ken Bruce(upright bass), and Dave McDonnell(sax).
Their first 2 EPs were released in 2008, and their first full-length, Sun Drips, was released on August 19th 2012. Sun Drips was recorded and produced over the seasons of 2 years in their apartment in Cincinnati with the help of friends and the contribution of local musicians. As we swim through its 53 minute experiment we are lead by a female narrator/hypnotist with threads of cultural-noise, Eno-esque drones, ecologically reifying landscapes accompanied by socio-archival sound fragments as sonic bread crumbs in a wetland picnic featuring segmented adaptational tributes to múm and Coco-Rosie songs.
Characterized by their jangly guitar, galloping drums, and an ebb and flow of reverberating harmonies, The Sleeping Sea plants seeds of hypnotism, chimurenga, and cultural samples into the garden of elegiac pop as if Thomas Mapfumo, múm, Peter Bjorn and John, the Books, Shugo Tokumaru, Fennesz, the Ruby Suns, and Taken By Trees were all stuck inside the belly of a whale.
