The Freshmen
The Verve Pipe Lyrics

When I was young I knew everything
And she a punk who rarely ever took advice
Now I'm guilt stricken
Sobbing with my head on the floor
Stop a baby's breath and a shoe full of rice, no

Can't be held responsible
'Cause she was touching her face
I won't be held responsible
She fell in love in the first place

For the life of me I cannot remember
What made us think that we were wise and
We'd never compromise
For the life of me I cannot believe
We'd ever die for these sins
We were merely freshmen

My best friend took a week's
Vacation to forget her
His girl took a week's worth oh
Valium and slept
And now he's guilt stricken sobbing with his
Head on the floor
Think's about her now and how he never really
Wept he says

Can't be held responsible
'Cause she was touching her face
I won't be held responsible
She fell in love in the first place

For the life of me I cannot remember
What made us think that we were wise and
We'd never compromise
For the life of me I cannot believe
We'd ever die for these sins
We were merely freshmen

Hey, yeah
Hey, yeah
Hey, yeah

We tried to wash our hands of all of this
We never talk of our lacking relationships
And how we're guilt stricken sobbing with our
Heads on the floor
We fell through the ice when we tried not to
Slip, we'd say

Can't be held responsible
'Cause she was touching her face
And I won't be held responsible
She fell in love in the first place

For the life of me I cannot remember
What made us think that we were wise and
We'd never compromise
For the life of me I cannot believe
We'd ever die for these sins
We were merely freshmen

For the life of me I cannot remember
What made us think that we were wise and
We'd never compromise
For the life of me I cannot believe
We'd ever die for these sins
We were merely freshmen

We were merely freshmen
We were only freshmen

"The Freshmen"

When I was young I knew everything
And she, a punk who rarely ever took advice
Now I'm guilt-stricken, sobbin' with my head on the floor
Stopped a baby's breath and a shoe full of rice, no

Can't be held responsible
She was touchin' her face
I won't be held responsible
She fell in love in the first place

For the life of me
I can not remember
What made us think that we were wise and we'd never compromise
For the life of me
I can not believe we'd ever die
For these sins
We were merely freshmen

My best friend took a week's vacation to forget her
His girl took a week's worth of valium and slept
And now he's guilt-stricken, sobbin'
With his head on the floor
Thinks about her now and how he never really wept he said

Can't be held responsible
She was touchin' her face
I won't be held responsible
She fell in love in the first place

For the life of me
I can not remember
What made us think that we were wise and we'd never compromise

+Autumn Waking up Sunday morning with a hangover and this song playing was the only time it was acceptable.. Honestly it was to slow and boring to be used any other time. Was it good?! Well for the purpose I described yes.

There was far better bands out there then..
Now it's a golden shower cascading down my face filling up the room forcing me to drown to find something I want to listen to, however is it impossible... No. That would be absurd.
Mtv Used to play MUSIC, that is what introduced many people to Soundgarden, Nirvana, Tupac, everything from the 90's.
You have YT now but it's implied you must do the search and find it, which can be more difficult because only we make it so..

Why did I listen to it now.. The old mems of waking up after a hard party sitting at a greasy spoon with my friends then spending the rest of Sunday just in peace and quiet getting ready for the daily grind Monday.

Search for things.. when your search ends so does your "Could have been ever increasing viewpoint but you put yourself in a fucking time capsule."

Sitting here at work, 40 years old. reminiscing about my teens and early 20's. I personally think coming of age in the 90's was an experience unlike any other decade, and Im so glad i had the chance to live in a time when you could just disconnect and truly relax. 80's babies RULE!!!!!

I was a kid in the 70s, teen in the 80s, college in the 90s. I thought it was only going to get better after the 90s. Boy, was I wrong. 90s was the last great decade.

Couldn't say it better myself!!! Only hope the next ten years from now in "2032" are so much better than they were in "2022"!!! And yes, like you said, I also believe the 1990s was the best last decade of greatest but who knows what the future holds for the youth of tomorrow!!!!😭🤪🤩🤬
