In the hallway, amongst power plugs, cables and all kinds of instruments. These were picked up with no precise intention. First there was interpretation, then there was improvisation, and finally, increasing focus to the essentials. Involving: a manifesto.
MAXIMAL REDUCTION
The songs follow a well-defined structure. Music is to be articulated in a no-frills fashion. Everything that's superfluous needs to go.
MINIMAL PRODUCTION
The Voltarenes make concentrated songs in limited time. What doesn't sound right the first time won't get better the second time. Take one is all that counts.
ELECTRONIC MUSIC
Keyboards are to be operated by hand. The drum computer is alive. Sequencers are a no-no. Coolness: yes. Sterility: no.
REFERENTIALITY
The Voltarenes process material. Thus, they pay their respects to Harvey Williams, Jonathan Richman, Stéphane Mallarmé etc.: "Remake, Remodel, Reduce, Repeat".
SUGGESTION
The stories are told by others. The reduced words make sense. A position, a citation or a play. All or nothing: "Stories".
PROCEEDINGS
Twelve songs created between 2004 and 2009. From "Anagrams" to "Captain". Newly mixed and newly written.
APPLICATION
For internal and external use. For chills and fever, delusions of grandeur and emptiness. To listen in, nod your head, wiggle your feet. Also a dancing step is welcome.
VOLUME
Yes.
PURCHASE
The Voltarenes debut album "Proceedings" is out now on weblabel KINOKOMA. It follows a series of four online-singles that were released since september 15th 2007. By now The Voltarenes are preparing a couple of live dates.
Music and full artwork is avaliable free on www.komakinomag.de.
