The band was formed in Lawrence, KS and since then had disbanded and reformed numerous times, but always left original members, Matt Phillips, Justin Popplewell, and Jimmy Wilson. The band only released one studio album on an Independent label (Icon Clad Records). Smile Through This (2006). It received a significant amount of local airplay. They initially had a raw sound, with stirring lyrics, and an unusually intricate sound for a band of this genre but the second half of "Smile Through This" showed a matured lyrical direction and a departure from their earlier less-developed sound. While the bands sound was very energetic and experimental, Matt's lyrics were driven by deep emotions. Such songs as "Memento Mori" and "The Guts That Stomach" were songs of a complicated relationships and mental fatigue. Other songs such as "I support the kids going home alone" were onslaughts to todays two-faced society." Ultimately it was depression and and self-mockery.The Walton Heist's reputation for energetic live performances outlasted their career, but rare videos support this, a faint hint was captured on a few live video recordings.
Breakup
In 2007, at the peak of their popularity and following an East Coast tour, Matt left the band. Stating in a blog on the bands myspace, "that leaving this band is best for myself and my health, there is plenty of reason in my leaving that I would rather keep with me and move on." The band indicated that they would continue in hopes of finding a new vocalist. It wasn't until october of 2007 that the band sealed all questions, stating in a blog "We are gone forever."
Following the break-up of TWH, Jimmy and Justin would join Lucys Revenge. This project was a departure from their previous work, as it pursued the more Pop/punk/Rock sound. Meanwhile, the other members of TWH - Pat McCormick and Joel Shipley - would continue on to form the band Robots vs Dinosuars, and Matt Phillips and Mike Stout would pursue other interests.
