The threesome are said to have taken their inspiration from the Incredible String Band's eclectic strain of psychedelic folk.
Multi-instrumentalist Tony Doré and bassist John Clark (died 2005) were childhood friends in Derby, England, and played together on both the rock and the folk circuit. In 1970, they joined with Caro (Caroline Owen) to form the trio. Their self-recorded debut album, All on the First Day, was self-pressed in an edition of only 100 copies, each with individually spray-painted covers.
Expanding the band line-up with Simon Burrett on lead guitar, Jonny Owen (brother of Caro) on harmonica, and Rod Jones on keyboards, the trio continued on the college circuit for a little while under the name Forever and Ever but the gigging stopped in the late seventies.
In 2001, a limited vinyl re-release of their debut album was made from the original master, and at the same time, released on CD. The release included five bonus tracks recorded around the time of All on the First Day.
In 2012, the trio made their first major label release with the album "Blue Clouds" on the Chicago-based record label, Drag City. This album, a joint release with Gaarden and Galactic Zoo, was made up of rare unreleased and live tracks from the "All On The First Day" era.
Tony and Caro, with accompanying musicians, toured Germany and the UK in early 2018 to promote a further re-release of their 1972 album, All on the First Day.

It could easily be a cultural haven now, but back then you just got away quick. Down in the Bright Lights we bumped into Caroline of the banana-like melismas and her harp-blowing brother Jonny. Shortly after, Simon walked through the door with his quantum-leap guitar and all-round musicality. And that was the band, a slightly bizarre combination of ex-folkies (Tony, Julie, Caro), electronics aficionados (John, Rod) and R&B types (Simon, Jonny), one that has persisted through the loss of several drummers, groupie-famines, onstage electrocutions, Caroline marrying at least two of us, and expatriations to Norway, Holland and the USA."

Tony Doré released the album, "Fall Away Like Leaves" on Gaarden Records that hearkens back to the haunting psych 1972 self-release "All On The First Day" (by Tony, Caro & John). The collection of songs feature Doré on just about every string instrument imaginable - tenor guitar, bazouki, sitar, ukelele, 12 string, banjo, mandolin, and more. The album was recorded in Houston, Texas and Limousin, France in 2009-2010 by Rod Jones. Other players include Rod Jones, Rob Jones, and Mel Jones, Barbara and Jenny Doré, Emilio Garciacaro, and John Clark.
