Matthais

on Torn Flesh / Crux of the Mosh

This isn’t necessarily thrash- it’s more punk, with some elements of hardcore and noise. Thrash is more technical than this. If they would have just stuck with shout style vocals, which is traditional for the musical aspect of their songs: they probably would have had more success. The vocalist trying to add grit to his voice was only proving that he does not have the throat to do so. Not being mean- not everyone has the genetic construct to throw down insane sounding vocals.
The distortion and/or gain was not EQed properly for the guitars, which is wrong if you take into consideration that there were plenty of insane sounding stomp boxes available when this album was made.
The vocalist was using a rapid lyric delivery for musical phrases that didn’t fit, which made the timing completely wrong. Even punk and core strive to keep time, because delivery is everything, especially if there’s any transition to the song that is utilized as the hook. If you have a lot to say, then structure the song to fit; even if it means making the song 30 seconds longer.
It’s too bad that the studio or producers obviously didn’t give them any guidance, because they do have some musical talent that could be felt, but it was denied the right to be nurtured. Art should never be rushed.
