V.O.A. first played together in November 2010.
From the outset it was clear that the musicians brought immense talent to the table, yet each coming from a different genre of musical expression from the others.
Nevertheless, after a few practice sessions, their first gig took place in Warsaw's Tortilla Factory on February 17, 2011 under the moniker "Acme 23". The name was soon changed to V.O.A., and since then the group has composed a repertuar of over 18 original songs of blues-rock fusion creating a sound all of their own.
Those lucky enough to have seen them in any of their six concerts thusfar have praised the energy and originalty of the band. But who is V.O.A.?
Robert Brylewski, on bass, had departed from his traditional guitar duties in well-known bands such as "Brygada Kryzys", "Armia", "Izrael" & Falarek Band, but he has not departed from his signature punk sound. Bass is generally regarded as a rhythm instrument, but under Brylewski, the bass takes on lead guitar duties not only driving the music, but pushing everyone and everything out of the way in the process. He is one of the most influential rock musicians in Poland, and is considered a founding father of Polish reggae.
Maciej Dłużniewski, on guitar, shows his blues background in grand style with power riffs that make the V.O.A. sound rich. Known for years on the blues and rock circuit in Warsaw, Dluzniewski brings his considerable experience and drive to the stage in unforgettable performances.
Amadeusz Krebs, on percussion, is the youngster in the group having just finished high school in 2011. But don't be fooled by his young age. Krebs' sound is as mature as that of any drummer twice his age. With a solid background in jazz and some national success already under his belt as drummer for the now-defunct band "Juice", his playing is varied and synchopated, and brings an interesting edge to the V.O.A. sound.
Will Richardson, the prime mover behind the V.O.A. project, has written and sung on the Warsaw blues rock scene for years. With a repertuar of material, he suddenly found himself without a band, but with a very valuable bit of advice: "Play only with the best." And that's exactly what he's done. Thanks to the combined efforts of V.O.A., Richardson's base repertuar found new life and deeper interpretation. With the new band in synch, the creative juices got flowing and more original material soon appeared. As lead vocal, Richardson receives praise and high marks from fans and critics alike. Let's not mention names here, but you'll know the sound once you hear him...
