On the Street Where You Live
Vic Damone Lyrics

Oh, the towering feeling just to know somehow you are near

I have often walked down this street before
But the pavement always stayed beneath my feet before
All at once am I several stories high
Knowing I'm on the street where you live

Are there lilac trees in the heart of town?
Can you hear a lark in any other part of town?
Does enchantment pour out of every door?
No, it's just on the street where you live

And oh, the towering feeling just to know somehow you are near
The overpowering feeling that any second you may suddenly appear

People stop and stare, they don't bother me
For there's nowhere else on earth that I would rather be
Let the time go by, I won't care if I
Can be here on the street where you live

In 1954 I used to take a bus passed this lovely girl's house. It was on my way home from High School. I would be filled with nervous anticipation, hoping she would be looking out the window and waving to me. I married her in October of 1955 and it lasted till she passed away in Sept. 2011. I can really relate to the feeling this song conveys.

clarence, I married in 1963. I had a great life. I married a girl from il. I lost her in 2016. our song was the mountain of love. I would never think of marriage again.

His was the best version of this song ever.

many singers of this time had a lot of rich voices like Sinatra etc, they sang very comfortably like that, they did not stretch the notes but in this case VIC Damone shows off her voice in a formidable way like Nino Bravo did with her powerful voice that dominated highs and lows without clashing where others would have been stuck and broken notes hiding them
