On the Street Where You Live
Vic Damone Lyrics

Oh, the towering feeling just to know somehow you are near

I have often walked down this street before
But the pavement always stayed beneath my feet before
All at once am I several stories high
Knowing I'm on the street where you live

Are there lilac trees in the heart of town?
Can you hear a lark in any other part of town?
Does enchantment pour out of every door?
No, it's just on the street where you live

And oh, the towering feeling just to know somehow you are near
The overpowering feeling that any second you may suddenly appear

People stop and stare, they don't bother me
For there's nowhere else on earth that I would rather be
Let the time go by, I won't care if I
Can be here on the street where you live

In 1954 I used to take a bus passed this lovely girl's house. It was on my way home from High School. I would be filled with nervous anticipation, hoping she would be looking out the window and waving to me. I married her in October of 1955 and it lasted till she passed away in Sept. 2011. I can really relate to the feeling this song conveys.

great story, man, you should read Bob Dylan's new boo, The Philosophy of Modern Song. He has a great discussion of this Vic Damone song.

Can't believe Robert Goulet never recorded this. He later worked with Lerner & Loewe.

@Andy Howlett it's good that there are people who know these things! 👍

@Peetos-chan Jeremy did sing the song on-set, but in post-production Bill Shirley was called in to sing the track. A pity really as Jeremy had quite a pleasant light tenor voice. Apparently Brett's own voice recording is still in existence and I think it is on you Tube somewhere.
