A year later, former High Five Jive guitarists, Jan Jaspers and Bart Lievens, came back. Together with their fellow band member Gert Servaes from Dizzy Dimples and piano player Wouter Haest, they presented a brand new blues experience, called Voodoo Boogie.
Voodoo Boogie was a new name in the Belgian blues scene but most of the members were not. Bart Lievens and Jan Jaspers had been playing together for ten years. With High Five Jive (1998) and Dizzy Dimples (2002), they played at the Belgium Rhythm 'n' Blues festival in Peer. They had also backed up American blues artists like Louisiana Red and Keith Dunn. Drummer Gert Servaes had also played at the BRBF in Peer with Big Mama's Kitchen (1995) and Dizzy Dimples.
Voodoo Boogie started playing at festivals and clubs in Belgium, The Netherlands, France and Germany. In only a few years, they developed into a groovy band with a good live reputation. In May 2006, Bart Lievens decided to leave the band and Rob Vanspauwen became Voodoo Boogie's new bass player.
Voodoo Boogie describe their music as "psychedelic funky groovy laid back roots & blues music". The blues (John Lee Hooker, Muddy Waters, Howling Wolf, J.B. Lenoir, Robert Johnson, Sleepy John Estes, etc) are the base of their music, but Voodoo Boogie are also very much influenced by bands like Cream, The Doors, The Jimi Hendrix Experience and sixties funk & soul music.
Line-up:
- Gert Servaes: Drums
- Rob Vanspauwen: Electric Bass
- Wouter Haest: Piano, Rhodes, Hammond Organ
- Jan Jaspers: Vocals, Guitar
