She withered away
A heart like a locket but I'll find a way in
Oh, but beauty has to fade
Oh, I don't know, God I don't know
Just that I want to love somebody, somebody, somebody, somebody
I will never kiss your wonderful lips
I'll never tire of dreaming of it
As I drift off to sleep
Listening to chimes ringing clear as the morning
I'll set my soul free
I felt my heart sing and my spirit soaring
Was this whole world made for me?
Do you hear wedding bells?
Do you hear wedding bells?
Because I want to love somebody, somebody, somebody, somebody
I will never kiss your wonderful lips
I'll never tire of dreaming of it
As I drift off to sleep on the water
I think about everything else
And I know that I must love myself
'Til anyone other than me
Can look and then see what I see
And sense where the harmony dwells
Do you hear wedding bells?
I picked a flower and I named her
Watched her fade away
A heart like a locket but I'll find a way in
I'm not really up to it
Do you hear wedding bells?
Do you hear wedding bells?
Because I want to love somebody, somebody, somebody, somebody
I will never kiss your wonderful lips
I'll never tire of dreaming of it
As I drift off to sleep on the water
I will never kiss your wonderful lips
I'll never tire of dreaming of it
As I drift off to sleep on the water
The lyrics to W.K.'s song "Flowers" are quite poignant and layered with meaning. The song opens with the protagonist picking a flower and naming her, only to watch her wither away. This serves as a metaphor for beauty and how it must inevitably fade away. The line "A heart like a locket but I'll find a way in" may refer to the idea that the protagonist is trying to find a way to touch someone's heart, despite the impermanence of beauty.
The chorus consists of the protagonist expressing a desire to love and be loved by somebody. The protagonist wishes to find someone who they will never tire of dreaming of kissing their wonderful lips. This indicates a longing for a deep, passionate connection with someone, a desire that goes unfulfilled.
The second verse takes on a more transcendental tone. Listening to the chimes ringing clear as the morning, the protagonist feels their heart and spirit soaring and asks if this whole world was made for them. This may be a moment of realization, where the protagonist understands that the universe is vast and mysterious, but they can find a sense of belonging within it.
The bridge of the song expresses the importance of self-love and discovery. The protagonist asserts that they must love themselves before anyone else can see what they see and sense where the harmony dwells. This speaks to the idea that one must be comfortable in their own skin and confident in themselves before they can truly connect with another person.
Overall, "Flowers" is a melancholic yet hopeful song about the human need for connection and understanding. It explores the fleeting nature of beauty and the importance of self-love in finding true love with someone else.
