I'm So Tired
Fugazi Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Surrounded by jealousy and death
I can't be reached, only had one call
Dragged underneath, separate from you all
this time I've lost my own return
In spite of everything I've learned
I hid my tracks, spit out all my air
Slipped into cracks, stripped of all my cares
I'm so tired sheep are counting me
No more struggle, no more energy
No more patient and you can write that down
It's all too crazy and I'm not sticking round
The lyrics to Fugazi's song "I'm So Tired" express feelings of exhaustion and detachment. The first few lines describe a bleak and lonely environment, with the singer feeling separated from others and unable to connect ("Surrounded by jealousy and death / I can't be reached, only had one call / Dragged underneath, separate from you all"). The second verse reveals that the singer has lost something important and is now resigned to his fate, no longer willing to put in the effort to fight back or seek help ("this time I've lost my own return / In spite of everything I've learned / I hid my tracks, spit out all my air / Slipped into cracks, stripped of all my cares"). The chorus, repeated twice, uses the image of counting sheep to suggest that the singer is extremely tired and has no energy left ("I'm so tired sheep are counting me / No more struggle, no more energy"). The final line of the song ("It's all too crazy and I'm not sticking round") suggests that the singer is ready to give up on life.
Overall, the lyrics to "I'm So Tired" convey a sense of hopelessness and despair. The singer feels cut off from the world, unable to find comfort or support in anyone or anything. His exhaustion is both physical and emotional, and he seems to have given up on trying to overcome his problems. The use of sheep as a metaphor for the singer's weariness is powerful, as it suggests that he has become something akin to a literal sheep, just going through the motions of life without any agency or control.
