Since I Left You
The Avalanches Lyrics

Where's Dexter?
Get a drink, have a good time now
Welcome to paradise

Since I left you
I found the world so new

Since I left you
I found the world so new

I found the world so new

Since I left you
I found the world so new
And every day

Since I left you
I found the world so new
And every day

Since I left you
I found the world so new
And every day

Since I left you (yeah)
I found the world so new

And every day (yeah)

And every day

And and

And and
Since I left you
I found the world so new
And everyday

Since I left you
I found the world so new
And everyday

I found the world so
I found the world so new

Since I
I found the world so
I found the world so new
Since I left you

@G M being mainstream and having mainstream appeal are the same thing. It means something is accepted and liked by most of the population.

I don't understand why you 'want' or 'need' that something that you like is appreciated by most of the population.

I don't.

I like lots of things which aren't mainstream. This song is one of them.

I know that's the same for most people. And that's fine. But most of us don't like the same non-mainstream things. That's why they are not mainstream.

I think this video is a metaphor of moving on and the after life overall.

“Welcome to paradise” with opening a door towards the ceiling with a fade to white in and out when leaving helps establish this as something not of the earth (also with the fact there’s dancers in a church underground 😂).
Arthur was ready but the other was not, wasn’t able to join in.
It’s at what appears to be a church as well with these clear lights through the window leaving no outside features.
There’s two judges which could be a metaphor for the judgement one goes through to go to paradise.
The use of the canary in the mine was used to show if the mine was safe from carbon monoxide or other gasses. Adding to the theme of life and death

Even without the religious or after-life undertones it still stands to be about moving on, with Arthur doing something which he quite obviously likes and leaving behind his old life.

Overall one of my all time favourite music videos. Not too obvious with its messaging and metaphors but just enough to get different interpretations. 👍
