Claudia Lewis
M83 Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Alone, twenty millions years from my place.
A slide, on the starlight.
Watch out, a new planet right on my trail
The space, oh oh it's mine
Oh oh!

I'm lost, in an infinite night trip.
The sun, could make me blind.
I wish, I could bring a girl to my ship.
And fly, her hand in mine!
Oh oh!

Alone, twenty million years from my place
(Is the dream over?)
The space, oh oh it's mine!

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to M83's "Claudia Lewis" paint a picture of a lonely astronaut drifting through space. He is so far from home that he has been alone for 20 million years, and he is sliding on a beam of starlight. He is on the lookout for a new planet that is following him closely, but he is unafraid, as he claims the vastness of space as his own.

As the song unfolds, we see that the astronaut is feeling lost and disconnected from everything he knows. He longs for companionship, wishing he could bring a girl onto his ship and hold her hand as they fly through the stars. The repetition of the phrase "Oh oh!" adds to the sense of infinite loneliness and the desire for connection. Finally, the song ends on a bittersweet note as the astronaut wonders if his journey is over and if he will ever find his way home, even as he revels in the feeling of ownership over the vast emptiness of space.

@52BLUE

I bought this album on vinyl for my little sister on her 16th birthday. She’s now 26 with a baby on the way. She told me at Christmas this year that she thinks this is one of the greatest albums of all time and that it reminds her of being a teenager. Mission successful.

@Ionic-ww5fm

What's the concept behind the record? I know it has to do with dreams obviously but is there another underlying meaning??
