Listened to Duane 50’s and 60’s! Still fabulous! Born 45
@jmrodas9
Very good tune I had forgotten from about 50 years of not hearing it. I clicked on it just by chance and now I remember it is from 1959 the year I became a teenager.
@verenavonschonburg-waldenb8636
What a great song. It is so sad and blue but at the same time filled with hopefullness.
@dickbuelow8968

@darrensterling2674
I wasn't even thought of when this came out. I got into listening to Duane eddy when I was 5. the first tune I heard of him was Angel on my shoulder. from the album twangy guitar silky string. that was my dad's. the then I got my first guitar at the age of 8
@doowop76
i was born in 1976 and always have loved Duane Eddy
@BigBobber19
my favorite Duane Eddy song...and he had some great ones.
@briane173
First record my brother ever bought for himself -- at the time I was about 4 or 5 y/o -- was a 45 rpm containing four songs by Duane Eddy: Cannonball, Movin' & Groovin', Mason Dixon Lion, and The Lonely One. His compositions were so short by today's standards you could fit two songs on one side of a 45. At first his music scared me; the sound of his Gretsch was so imposing with that low-tenor tone and tremolo it just sounded "mean" to my 5-y/o ears. But after hearing Because They're Young a couple years later I became a fan and have been a fan ever since.
@klm7858
Oh man, does this ever take me back to the hours and hours I spent listening to Duane's albums on a scratchy old portable record player!! You really gave this recording a wonderful sound.....thanks so much!
@brian.7966
me too, great music.
@johnmclaughlin1940
i was born in 1940 and loved all of duane eddys work jmcl
@MrDavidStrohacker
This was a great record in 1959 and so good to hear it again on Utube. It's a pity that this number is not available on cd with the same original sound as I can only find remastered versions.
@odovicor
Beautiful music and that dreamy face. I could imagine David Lynch using this gorgeous song in a scene where he carries the narrative back to a simpler time to offset his nightmare worlds.Anyway, the guitar is magnificent.
@ravenwolf789
GOD I MISS YOU APRIL LEE, the night you died your spirit came to me and we wanted to dance again, this is our song Lady Friend so dance with me my darling, I will be their one day and I swear I will find you, we will dance across the star system

R. I. P. elwood milo miller (1937-2019) i'll sure miss you so much dad.
@COMPOUNDCOLLECTIVE
It is an irony for me. This was one of the first tunes I fell in love with as a young tot of 5 or 6. I was born in 1958 and lived much of my life as a "lonely one".(and an only child) I never knew the words or facts of this recording until I was a teenager.
@yelnickmcwawa5858
Sorry pal but that's not irony at all. In fact it's kinda the opposite
@COMPOUNDCOLLECTIVE
@@yelnickmcwawa5858 Yes indeed. I should have used the word fittingly.
@ukbarton
You can tell from my video choices that Duane Eddy is a favourite and has been since my teen years in the fifties. They are all classics to me 8)

@PhillipCreeper
Fantastic job by Duane as usual. Thanks for sharing.
@QuietFromMetalGearSolid
This is very good
@if6was929
For a moment there I was back in Brooklyn as an 8 year old kid in my bedroom at night listening to my transistor radio.
@flickout1
Someone commented that Eddy is a lot better than his simple tunes - I can vouch for that. I saw him live in the mid-60's and was astonished to see that there was no backup guitar - just Eddy with bass and drums. He played both lead and rhythm and, it you weren't watching, you'd swear that there were at least two people playing. Loved his stuff from day one, and it still sounds great.
@phonicwheel
Haven't heard this since 1958. TFP UK

A LEGENDARY JAMIE RECORDS!!!!.....
@FrancescoAlcozer
There are many successes that Duane Eddy has recorded with the Jamie Record together with his band "The Rebels". Greetings. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eavkz78hWL8 SHAZAM 1960 Gretsch Guitar cover by Duane Eddy & The Rebels

The number one guitar instrumental of all time? I think so!
@magpiemac4957
For my Mate Max Brundell,passed away 5/2/18
@wesleycook7687
Great instrumental. Reminds me of another song, though. Probably a western theme. Duane Eddy is often overlooked as the great guitarist he was. Check out his take on Peter Gunn. You'll forget all about Henry Mancini or the others that did the Peter Gunn TV theme. He also did the guitar work on Robert Mitchum's Ballad Of Thunder Road.
@jacquescasier9679
great guitarist
@Harmonicajello
@MrDavidStrohacker I have Duane Eddy's "21 Greatest Hits" on Motown label, honest, i wouldn't kid you. It sounds original & "Detour" is included. The label says, "Transferred directly from the original masters". It's available on Amazon for £4.47. They aren't new but listed as "very good". I can recommend this set as it sounds the real thang to me. Hope this is useful.
@FrancescoAlcozer
Of course! I also own this beautiful Duane Eddy album. Thank you and greetings. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MEM--5d2cNQ DETOUR Guild Guitar cover by Duane Eddy

Duane "Twang" Eddy. No peers.
@calindesmoines1
This great ballad deserved to be the "A" side with a big push from Jamie Records. Duane's other great ballad, The Quiet Three, also should have met with a much better fate. It was on the flipside of Forty Miles Of Bad Road.
@FrancescoAlcozer
It 's true friend: many songs of the "B" side of his 45 laps were valid and worthy of success. Greetings. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NpkUpcLyaoc THE QUIET THREE Gretsch Guitar cover by Duane Eddy
@sunwarrior88
LOL...not quite; however, one of Eddy's best, yet least known tunes. Actually, I saw him perform in person many, many moons ago and he's actually a lot better than some of his simple melodies show.
@williedmusic
He was married to Jessie Colter before she hooked with the late great Waylon Jennings
