Headed For A Heartbreak
Winger Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Yeah

Morning came and I was on my way
When you reminded me
I had too soon forgotten
It was you that set me free
Yeah, you were here when I came
You'll be here when I'm gone
So don't be waiting on love
'Cause I'll be waiting to ramble on

Headed for a heartbreak
Headed for a heartbreak

Darling, don't wait up for me
Tonight I won't be home
You've become a stranger
I just got to be alone
Don't need nobody on my side
To dull the blade I'm on
So don't be waiting on love
'Cause I'll be waiting to ramble on

Headed for a heartbreak
Headed for a heartbreak
Headed for a heartbreak

It's not a mistake
Don't you think I can feel the pain?
I walk away, to live again

Headed for a heartbreak
Headed for a heartbreak (Don't make me hurt you)
Headed for a heartbreak ('Cause I love you)
Headed for a heartbreak

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Winger's "Headed For A Heartbreak" portray a man's realization that he isn't ready for a committed relationship, despite having been set free by his love. The singer admits to his lover that he needs to be alone and "ramble on", even if it means breaking her heart. He reminds her not to wait for him, as he is a "stranger" and needs to find his own way. Ultimately, the singer recognizes that he is "Headed for a heartbreak", but believes it's necessary to walk away and live again.

The lyrics present a relatable moment of introspection that many people experience in relationships. The struggle to balance one's personal desires with the responsibilities of a partnership is one that many can empathize with. The song's tempo and instrumentation also match the lyrics' themes, with the fast-paced guitar riff echoing the singer's restless energy.

@darthboganis1356

I heard them for the first time about 7 years ago, I was 19. Been in love with their music ever since. Truly underrated

@henrythegreatamerican8136

Yea, the problem with this band wasn't the quality of the music. It was the super cheesy lyrics that sounded like they were written by a perpetually horny high schooler. That would go for most music from that generation. The lyrics were generally awful. Bands like Guns N Roses were the exception.

@sz5876

You know it dude!

@darthboganis1356

@@henrythegreatamerican8136 Yeah that's 90% of 80s music. And the 80s is particularly special time for music. What's your point?

@d05wtt

Christopher Amons Glad you like the song. No offense but you were 2 years old when this album came out. It β€œstuck in your soul” when you’re 2?
