Sun Storm
Mac Lethal Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I'm from the methlab city of broken dreams,
And cracked out dopamines,
Where everybody'y looking for an ocean scene,
Where 'Pac and Biggie are passe cuz back home,
We speak in terms of Mac Dre and Fat Tone,
I'm from a city where there's actually people,
That are bothered by the thought of homosexual marriage,
The bible belt, friendly smiles, and Christian steeples,
And names like Bobby Sue Williams and Belinda Peoples,
This town is so eerie when it snows,
All the trees look like ghosts appearing in the road,
The crows flew south of heaven and found the elixir,
The echo of silence whispers from the mouth of the river,
To say... yeah the city could be great one day,
But the first step is getting out of our own way.
I've been to bigger cities, they produce bigger frowns,
I'll die, right here, in this town.

And I know,
There's something beautiful within my grasp,
And I know,
I think I'm satisfied but it won't last
And I know,
To lace my boots up and pick my path,
I'll find another rainstorm to fill my glass {twice}

So quote my life as written by anonymous, fuck it,
I think I'll keep the liquid courage and the broken promises,
So if you're coming over bring a bottle and a cup,
There's a war going on outside-- and I don't give a fuck,
I could never win the fight for me,
I could only minimize the details of my life story,
I was born, late July, 1981,
Skip a bunch of bullshit until now and then the story's done,
But I'mma write the chapters later in my life,
In a nursing home with a sweet lady for a wife,
Both of us in wheelchairs we quietly hold hands,
It's strange, but one day, I'm gonna be an old man,
I hope to be happy on that day because I finally stood up,
And moved the hell out of my own way.
I need to get the hell out of my own way. And so do you.

And I know,
There's something beautiful within my grasp,
And I know,
I think I'm satisfied but it won't last
And I know,
To lace my boots up and pick my path,
I'll find another rainstorm to fill my glass {four times}

Overall Meaning

In Mac Lethal's song Sun Storm, he paints a vivid picture of the city he comes from - a city plagued by drug addiction, broken dreams, and an unyielding resistance to progress. The city he describes is one where people are stuck in the past, clinging onto the memories of rappers like Mac Dre and Fat Tone instead of moving forward. The Bible belt holds a tight grip on the city, with many residents opposed to the idea of homosexual marriage. Mac Lethal himself seems to be tired of the city and its stagnation, stating that the first step towards greatness is getting out of their own way.

Amidst the darkness, he also finds something beautiful within his grasp. He speaks of being satisfied but knowing it won't last, and likens life to a rainstorm that fills his glass. He acknowledges that his life story is not one he can win, but he can at least minimize the details. Mac Lethal reveals the year of his birth (1981) and imagines himself as an old man in a nursing home with a happy life story, one in which he finally moves out of his own way.

Overall, Sun Storm is a song about the need to break free from the limitations of our surroundings and ourselves. It's about the desire to find something beautiful in a world that may seem bleak, and to take control of our own narrative.

It's awesome that Mac is getting media attention for his fast rap videos, but at the same time, it's a shame that songs like this are being overlooked. This shit is beautiful.

Kelsey Mcgarrah

I 100% agree with you, those Love potion mixtapes were f**** amazing back in the day

Anthony Williams

I agree. I've loved this song way before his fast rap vids. Well; glass is half full, that's their loss.

Damn dude. 3 years ago. I can see where you get some of your rap inspiration from.

matt attack!

I’ll never forget the firs time i heard this song. I was on my way to the hospital to see my mother who i knew wasnt going to make it. Maybe a mile from the hospital the chorus started hooking and i just cried like a baby. My mom and I weren’t on the greatest terms when she got sick, and somehow the chorus comforted me. Years later and this song still touches me the way it did that day in 2013. Thanks Mac lethal. Ill never stop listening

Dylan Orlando

Still my favorite song of all time. Thank you ABDC
