Diggin' on You
TLC Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I was like peace in a groove
On a Sunday afternoon
You were there so was I
In the park 4th of July
I was chillin' with my Kool-Aid
When Miss Chilli came to relay
That you had a thing for me
Finest thing you'd ever seen
I must admit to you
I've heard them lines a time or two
Although for some apparent reason
Monkey lines are now in season
Lights off, lights on
I guess the groove is on so I am

Diggin' the scene
Diggin' on you
Diggin' on me
Baby bay-oh-baby baby
It's on like that
It's on like that
I gotta be in love or somethin' like that

I was like deep in a cool
What'nt gone be nobody's fool
Could not care less who was there
Could've been like anywhere
I was chillin' with my Kool-Aid
Did not want to par-ti-ci-pate
In no silly conversations
Had no time for new relation-ships
I must admit to you
When I heard the lines you threw
Although it usually turns me off
But this time you have turned me on
Lights off, Lights on
I guess the groove is on and I am

Diggin' the scene
Diggin' on you
Diggin' on me
Baby bay-oh-baby baby
It's on like that
It's on like that
I gotta be in love or somethin' like that

Oh why do I feel the way I do
When all I can think about is you
What was it in a line
That made me fall for you
Do you know
Why I'm diggin' diggin' diggin' diggin' on you

Diggin' the scene
Diggin' on you
Diggin' on me
Baby bay-oh-baby baby
It's on like that
It's on like that
I gotta be in love or somethin' like that

Diggin' on you
It's on like that
Diggin' diggin' diggin' diggin' on you

Diggin' the scene
Diggin' on you
Diggin' on me
Baby bay-oh-baby baby
It's on like that
It's on like that
I gotta be in love or somethin' like that

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "Diggin’ on You" by TLC describe two people who are into each other and enjoying each other’s company. The song tells a story of how the two individuals met on the fourth of July in the park. The singer was relaxing with their Kool-Aid when Chilli came over to tell them that the other person had their eyes on them. The singer explains they have heard pick-up lines before but for some reason, the lines from the other person had an effect on them. They describe feeling the groove and enjoying each other's company, mentioning "lights off, lights on" indicating they may have taken the relationship to another level. The chorus affirms their feelings for each other, describing how they are "diggin’ on you" and "diggin’ on me."

The second verse describes how the singer was not looking for anything serious but the other person's words changed their mind. The chorus repeats, affirming their love for each other. The bridge questions what it was that made the singer fall for the other person, and whether they know what it was. The song ends with the chorus repeating again.

@tremaine861

These three never outshone each other and that's what I loved about them.Β

@greglewin1968

tremaine861 the song plus that exact same reason is why they are my #1 Favorite female group for LIFE!!!!!!!!!!

@batoolabbasi2746

I mean yeah tboz was the lead in most of songs u can still never ever feel rivalry or bossy attitude from any of them.i love that they protested for chili after she was kicked out before they were even anything...now destinys child on the other hand...

@the1musiclad

Batool Abbasi To be fair they didn't protest much for Crystal.

Love 'em though, don't get me wrong.

@batoolabbasi2746

I guess protested was a strong word but to still call for her when they weren't even friends was way more sisterhood like than destinys child was

@the1musiclad

Batool AbbasiΒ Yeah but it's two different groups. There was a clear star in Destiny's Child (maybe two). I think they were nice enough allowing Michelle to stick around.

@monopolyphonicmusic

TLC worked so beautifully as a group because they all had a unique job. TBoz sang low, Chilli sang high, and Left Eye rapped. A lot of groups just have multiple mezzo girls fighting for airtime

@beeze590

Everyone pop/r&b girl is a mezzo soprano nowadays. No contraltos or lyric sopranos anymore 😒

@gamer1X12

not fighting for airtime, i SCREAMED 😭😭

@KingstonTV334

3 different feminine energies, T-boz is sensual, Chili is girlish and left eye was tom boyish
