Ben Webster Lyrics

And now the purple dusk of twilight time
Steals across the meadows of my heart
High up in the sky the little stars climb
Always reminding me that we're apart
You wander down the lane and far away
Leaving me a song that will not die
Love is now the stardust of yesterday
The music of the years gone by.

Sometimes I wonder, how I spend
The lonely nights
Dreaming of a song
The melody
Haunts my reverie
And I am once again with you
When our love was new
And each kiss an inspiration
But that was long ago
And now my consolation is in the stardust of a song

Besides the garden wall, when stars are bright
You are in my arms
The nightingale
Tells his fairytale
Of paradise, where roses grew
Though I dream in vain
In my heart it will remain
My stardust melody
The memory of love's refrain.

he said: I can't play a love song unless I know the words!

Ben truly had a sound that was all his own; simply beautiful!

John Benn

Wonderful version of a classic tune by one of the world's best sax players.
God how smooth is that sound!
From a 70yo Aussie fan.

Ben makes his tenor sax sing. What a superb musician.

Annette Marshall

nobody does it better!

It's those little breathy vibrato nuances he makes that is so great!!!

Richard Cutler

Dexter Gordon's wife wrote about a dispute between Ben and Sexter on the changes to "Body and Soul." But she said that Ben owned "Stardust." I must have ten recordings of Ben in different settings playing "Stardust," and he never fails to uncover the heart of song.

Man, I love his playing style

Such sophisticated phrasing, and so expressive of so much more than just the lyrics.
