no time to die
Billie Eilish Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I should've known
I'd leave alone
Just goes to show
That the blood you bleed
Is just the blood you owe

We were a pair
But I saw you there
Too much to bear
You were my life
But life is far away from fair

Was I stupid to love you?
Was I reckless to help?
Was it obvious to everybody else

That I'd fallen for a lie?
You were never on my side
Fool me once, fool me twice
Are you death or paradise?
Now you'll never see me cry
There's just no time to die

I let it burn
You're no longer my concern
Faces from my past return
Another lesson yet to learn

That I'd fallen for a lie
You were never on my side
Fool me once, fool me twice
Are you death or paradise?
Now you'll never see me cry
There's just no time to die

No time to die
No time to die

Fool me once, fool me twice
Are you death or paradise?
Now you'll never see me cry

There's just no time to die

Overall Meaning

In Billie Eilish's song "No Time to Die," the singer takes on the persona of a betrayed lover who is now trying to move on from a bad relationship. The first verse sets the scene of the aftermath of the break-up: "I should've known / I'd leave alone / Just goes to show / That the blood you bleed / Is just the blood you owe." Billie is acknowledging that she should have seen the signs of the impending end of the relationship and that she now has to deal with the pain that comes with it. The line "the blood you bleed is just the blood you owe" suggests that the partner who betrayed her will get what's coming to them in the end.

In the chorus, she laments the fact that she was fooled by this person and wonders if she was foolish to love them and help them. She questions whether it was clear to everyone else that she was falling for a lie, and that her partner was never on her side. The line "Are you death or paradise?" suggests that this person was both good and bad for her, but ultimately caused her pain. She resolves not to cry over the situation anymore because she has no time to die; she needs to move on and heal.

The second verse mentions that Billie is no longer concerned with the person who hurt her and that she is trying to move on, but faces from her past continue to haunt her. She concludes the song with a repetition of the chorus, emphasizing once again that this person will never see her cry.
