Void
The Mary Onettes Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

You speak of wisdom. It's in your eyes.
You have a reason for it all.
Bring me the feeling cause I'll never learn.
That you're in to please with your words.

I'm the void, I'm the void and you can fall into me now.
I'm the void, I'm the void
I'm the void, I'm the void

I've learned the wisdow. Your words takes me where?
Still I'm the one who's in despair.
I keep the distance and it pays again.
A friend, a thought, a brilliant state

I'm the void, I'm the void and you can fall into me now.
I'm the void, I'm the void
I'm the void, I'm the void

(Is there a love that never dies?).
A killing movement in my mind allows the will to die,
Afraid that things will be alright, and it stars to move again.
A loveless thought, a loveless thought.
I'm the void...

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to The Mary Onettes's song "Void" are cryptic and open to interpretation, but one possible meaning is that the singer is trying to navigate a relationship with someone who speaks with authority and wisdom but may not have their best interests at heart. The singer is drawn to this person's words and ideas, but ultimately feels empty and disconnected from them, hence the repetition of "I'm the void." The singer wonders if there is such a thing as love that never dies, but also acknowledges the fear of the possibility of things turning out alright, which could disrupt the sense of stability provided by the void.

The lyrics could be seen as a critique of the idea that wisdom and knowledge can be used to manipulate or control other people. The singer feels disillusioned by the person's words and struggles to see if there is any true depth to their words beyond surface-level platitudes. The repetition of "I'm the void" suggests a sense of loneliness and disconnection from others, as if the singer has retreated into themselves as a way of coping with the inadequacies of the outside world.

Overall, the lyrics to "Void" suggest a sense of existential despair and confusion, with the singer grappling with questions of love, wisdom, and authenticity.
