Me too man. I’m a straight person but this song especially with the music video is so special to me. I remember this came out at the lowest point in my life when I was extremely suicidal and I felt heard for once when I listened to this. Just about everything he was saying was so relatable to me. He's got so many good songs. I like that he has a lot of introspective songs like this one, that he's not afraid to put his feelings out there- I'm sorry he had to go through so much pain and self-doubt growing up, but it also really seems like he's helping a lot of other people heal and feel better about themselves by sharing his experiences. This song is not just about feeling different because you aren't straight but also about how you need to first accept yourself and then everything else takes place. I had trouble understanding who I was or why I am who I am and I think this song made me realise that it's okay to not fit in, it's okay to take time for yourself because I think in this busy world we forget to take care of ourselves. Everyone is straight cis, having fun, hugging, kissing, and then here’s me bouncing between some friends and smoking in the bathroom to cope with it. This song came out the day after my birthday. I had accepted that I was trans and pan, in the middle of a godawful, hateful, abusive family. This song single handedly saved my life. Now I'm on my way to begin HRT, have accepted my pansexuality, and have escaped from all the horrors of "home" to make my own. Just wanted to say thank you, Lil Nas X. This is my favorite Lil Nas X song. I get emotional every time I listen to it. His journey really shows in this song, and while it's sad it's also hopeful. He was going through so much while young, and he finds himself on top today. It gives me hope for my future. There is a higher spirit guiding him, and I feel like there's one guiding me as well.
