Kickstart My Heart
Mötley Crüe Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

When I get high I get high on speed
Top fuel funny car's a drug for me
My heart, my heart
Kick start my heart
Always got the cops coming after me
Custom-built bike doing 103
My heart, my heart
Kick start my heart

Oh, are you ready girls?
Oh, are you ready now?
Whoa, yeah
Kick start my heart, give it a start
Whoa, yeah, baby
Whoa, yeah
Kick start my heart, hope it never stops
Whoa, yeah, baby, yeah

Skydive naked from an aeroplane
Or a lady with a body from outer space
My heart, my heart
Kick start my heart
Say I got trouble, trouble in my eyes
I'm just looking for another good time
My heart, my heart
Kick start my heart

Yeah, are you ready girls?
Yeah, are you ready now, now, now?
Whoa, yeah
Kick start my heart, give it a start
Whoa, yeah, baby, whoa, yeah
Kick start my heart, hope it never stops
Whoa, yeah, baby

When we started this band
All we needed, needed was a laugh
Years gone by, I'd say we've kicked some ass
When I'm enraged or hittin' the stage
Adrenaline rushing through my veins
And I'd say we're still kickin' ass

I say, ooh ah, kick start my heart
I hope it never stops
And to think, we did all of this to rock

Whoa, yeah
Kick start my heart, give it a start
Whoa, yeah, b-b-b-b-b-b-baby
Whoa, yeah
Kick start my heart, hope it never stops
Whoa, yeah, baby

Whoa, yeah
Kick start my heart, hope it never stops
Whoa, yeah, baby
Whoa, yeah
Kick start my heart, give it a start
Whoa, yeah
Okay boys, let's rock the house

That's all

Kickstart my heart

Overall Meaning

The song "Kickstart My Heart" by Mötley Crüe is a tribute to lead singer Vince Neil's near-death experience when he accidentally overdosed on pure adrenaline during a dirt bike race in 1984. The lyrics are a high-octane narrative of Neil's drug-fueled lifestyle and his experiences with excess and danger, including fast cars, custom bikes, and skydiving. Neil highlights his need for adrenaline and excitement, as well as the risks he takes to maintain the rush. The song's chorus, "Kick start my heart, hope it never stops," captures the intensity and power of such a visceral experience.

While the song celebrates Neil's survival and the band's success, it also acknowledges the risks and dangers associated with addiction and thrill-seeking behavior. The lyrics hint at the darker side of Neil's lifestyle, with references to trouble and trouble in his eyes. The song ultimately suggests that rock and roll is a means of escape and a way to tap into the same thrilling rush that comes from high-risk activities.

I stopped caring for metal music because the lyricism never seemed to change. Just talking about the same depressive stuff, over and over again. It seemed to be about who played harder and louder than who could explore their creativity deeper.
Rap, real rap, gave me exactly what I was missing in metal music.
I will compare the first verse from El-P's Tasmanian Pain Coaster with the first verse of this song:

Bumped into this kid I knew, he often would walk strange

So I ignored the blood on his laces so this cat could save face

The dunks and the gaze stayed in an off gray haze

And the lump in his pocket talked to the ox that he clutched safeSo I saluted him there, waiting for the A

Trapped on the empty platform without the option to escape

Gave him the standard, yo, what up man, how you landin'?

And the hypnotized response was no surprise, I maintainYeah, we all do, that's the standardized refrain but on some

Really real man, good to see you, really, what the dealy deal?

Oops, fuck, screwed the pooch, asked too much, knew the truth

On the train now, a caboose in his brain now, no recluse80 blocks to uptown spot, destination vocal booth

Metro-card like, you get what you pay for stupid, no excuse

He pulled his hoody off his cabbage rugged practical

And began to fancy the words I mistakenly jostled looseThe stogie he brazenly lit where he sit looked legit

But when the flame touched to the tip I could smell it's of another nit

He leaned his head back and inhaled the newpie dip and said

"The whole design got my mind cryin' if I'm lyin' I'm dyin', shit"
Now: Kickstart my Heart

When I get high I get high on speed
Top fuel funny car's A drug for me
My heart, my heart
Kick start my heart
Always got the cops Coming after me
Custom built bike doing 103
My heart, my heart
Kick start my heart.

I'm not going to shit on your tastes, but there is a difference between the lyrical content put forth by these artists. To act as if people simply listen to rap music because they are stupid is folly in my opinion. You can, however, shit on Lil Wayne, Drake, Future, Tyga, Jay Z, Kanye, Rick Ross, etc. They, unfortunately, are the most well known rappers, and coincidentally the worst as well.
