The Middle
Zedd Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Interesting Facts ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Take a seat right over there, sat on the stairs
Stay or leave, the cabinets are bare and I'm unaware
Of just how we got into this mess, got so aggressive
I know we meant all good intentions

So pull me closer
Why don't you pull me close?
Why don't you come on over?
I can't just let you go

Oh baby, why don't you just meet me in the middle?
I'm losing my mind just a little
So why don't you just meet me in the middle?
In the middle
Baby, why don't you just meet me in the middle?
I'm losing my mind just a little
So why don't you just meet me in the middle?
In the middle, oh

Take a step back for a minute, into the kitchen
Floors are wet and taps are still running, dishes are broken
How did we get into this mess? Got so aggressive
I know we meant all good intentions

So pull me closer
Why don't you pull me close?
Why don't you come on over?
I can't just let you go, oh

Baby, why don't you just meet me in the middle?
I'm losing my mind just a little
So why don't you just meet me in the middle?
In the middle

Looking at you, I can't lie
Just pouring out admission
Regardless of my objection, oh
And it's not about my pride
I need you on my skin
Just come over, pull me in, just

Oh, baby, why don't you just meet me in the middle?
I'm losing my mind just a little
So why don't you just meet me in the middle?
In the middle, no no
Baby, why don't you just meet me in the middle? Oh yeah
I'm losing my mind just a little
So why don't you just meet me in the middle? Oh
In the middle
Baby, why don't you just meet me in the middle, baby?
I'm losing my mind just a little
So why don't you just meet me in the middle, middle?
In the middle, middle

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Zedd's song The Middle describe a relationship that has hit a rough patch. The singer sits on the stairs trying to decide whether to stay or leave after a fight with their partner. They don't understand how they ended up in such a mess, and things got so aggressive. However, they still have good intentions and don't want to let go of their partner. They ask their partner to pull them closer, to meet in the middle, to work out their differences and not to let the relationship fall apart.

The chorus asks the partner to meet them in the middle because they are "losing their mind just a little." The second verse takes us into the kitchen, where the mess continues with wet floors, running taps, and broken dishes. The singer again wonders how they got into this mess and acknowledges that things got aggressive, but reminds their partner that their intentions were good. The bridge highlights the singer's vulnerability, admitting they can't hide their feelings anymore, and they need their partner close to them, regardless of any objection. They close the song with the chorus, asking their partner to meet them in the middle and not to let things fall apart.

Everything about this song is so well done. Killer vocals, killer beat, killer production, killer hook.

@Drifterman319 I know it's heavily autotuned and produced, but the vocalist can obviously sing regardless. Autotune is everywhere in this genre, the pitch has to be flawless and the human voice can't achieve that level of perfection.

This isn't my type of music, but I can appreciate it for what it is - commercial pop music with an EDM twist made to be a radio hit. It's really good for what it was meant to be. The vocals, composition and production are super catchy. Try not to be so bitter.

Wow! Serial killer! 😲
