Little Bit of Rain
Karen Dalton Lyrics

Please try to remember the good times
Warm days filled with sunshine
And just a little bit of rain
And if you look back
Please try to forget all the bad times
The lonely blue and sad times
And just a little bit of rain
Just a little bit of rain
And if I look back
You know I'll remember the good times
Warm days filled with sunshine
And just a little bit of rain
Just a little bit of rain
Just a little bit of rain
Karen Dalton's song "Little Bit of Rain" is a stirring, melancholic ballad that reflects on the beauty and fragility of love. The lyrics speak of leaving, of trying to remember the good times and forget the bad, and of the bittersweet mixture of joy and sorrow that define our relationships.
The first verse sets the tone for the song, with the singer urging her lover to remember the good times they had. She speaks of warm days filled with sunshine and just a little bit of rain, a metaphor for the mix of happiness and sorrow in their relationship. The second verse turns the focus back on the singer, as she reflects on her own memories of the good times. Again, there is a sense of sadness and loss underlying the nostalgia, as if the happiness of the past can never be fully recaptured.
The chorus repeats the refrain "just a little bit of rain" three times, each time with a slight variation. The repetition emphasizes the central image of the song and gives it a haunting, almost mystical quality. There is a sense that the rain represents something fundamental about life and love, something that can never be entirely understood or controlled.
Overall, "Little Bit of Rain" is a poignant and deeply affecting song, full of beauty and sadness. Dalton's unique voice adds to the emotional power of the lyrics, and the simple, acoustic guitar accompaniment underscores the song's raw, intimate feel.

My mother died in 2018. I can't say that she ever mentioned or even ever heard of Karen Dalton. But I thought of her the moment I first heard this song -- and reading the lyrics moved me to tears. It was just my mother's sensibility exactly, the kind of sad sweet song she would have sung to me as a child, like out of the collective memory of our people.

I've loved Karen's work since 1990's - we were going through tremendously difficult time which resulted in my daughter's death in early 2000. I can feel real solace in her creativity. That sounds terribly simplistic I know, but Karen"s work has meant so much to me.
