Someone Somewhere
Jason Reeves Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Someone is waiting
Someone who understands exactly how you feel
Exactly how you feel
Someone is dreaming
Someone is hoping just that this will be the day
That this will be the day

That you take your eyes off the ground out of the blue
And see that someone is looking right back at you

Maybe that someone's me
Maybe it's meant to be lovers, strangers
Sometimes bombs fall quietly
Maybe it's chemistry
Maybe it's hard to see that someone is the right one
Well, I hope that someone is me

Nobody's perfect
Nobody's perfect, no one really knows the truth
All we've got's a point of view
And there's too many questions
There's too many questions and too many reasons not to try
There's too many reasons not to try

But you should take your eyes off the ground out of the blue
And see that someone is looking right back at you

Maybe that someone's me
Maybe it's meant to be lovers, strangers
Sometimes bombs fall quietly
Maybe it's chemistry
Maybe it's hard to see that someone is the right one
I hope that someone is me

Where you gonna go from here?
'Cause everything you need's out there
And you can have it if you dare, if you dare
There's someone somewhere
There's someone somewhere
There's someone somewhere
There's someone somewhere

Maybe that someone's me
Maybe it's meant to be lovers, strangers
Sometimes bombs fall quietly
Maybe it's chemistry
Maybe it's hard to see that someone is the right one
Well, I hope that someone is me

That someone is me, someone is me
I hope that, I hope that some one is me

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Jason Reeves's song "Someone Somewhere" offer a message of hope and encouragement to those who may feel alone or uncertain about their romantic prospects. The chorus suggests that there is always someone out there waiting for us, someone who understands and accepts us exactly as we are. The verses expand on this theme, acknowledging that nobody is perfect and that there are many obstacles to finding and connecting with another person. Despite these challenges, the song urges us to keep looking up and keep our eyes open for the person who may be right for us.

The imagery in the lyrics is focused on the idea of seeing and being seen. The repeated phrase "take your eyes off the ground" suggests that we may be so absorbed in our own thoughts and concerns that we fail to notice the possibilities around us. The line "sometimes bombs fall quietly" is a striking metaphor that suggests that even in the midst of chaos and uncertainty, there may be moments of great significance and potential connection.

A year and a half ago I went through a terrible breakup and your music helped me through it. I can't thank you enough. Your voice soothed my aches and pains. Every emotion that I felt at any given moment was illustrated in your songs—every frustration, every sad thought, every insecurity. Your music gave me an escape and helped me find my way through a difficult time in a my life. You and your music will forever be near and dear to my heart.

This song stabs me in the heart whenever I hear it. I often hear it at Kohls and it hits so close to home I want to cry right there in the store. The message is reassuring but full of pathos and heartache - conveying the unrequited longing for love and the frustration with one's own insecurity that stands in the way. It's always amazing to me how singer-songwriters like Jason can so eloquently sum up my innermost feelings, like he tore a page from my diary or pulled the thoughts from my head.

I first heard this song while working at Kohls 10 years ago :) It's one of maybe 3 or 4 songs on that store's soundtrack that I legitimately fell in love with. In between all the "Trouble" and "Wrecking Ball", I could always look forward to at least hearing this song once per shift <3 And, here I am, ten years and 3 jobs later, still listening to Jason Reeves on Youtube when I want to feel better after a crappy day.

I know, right?! I was over the moon when Jason responded to my comment. That meant a lot to me. He is such a beautiful soul and a poet, not your typical singer-songwriter. I still cry every time I hear this song because it hits so close to home. I just heard it again today and cried for a different reason though, because I think I might have finally found my "someone somewhere." :)

Such a beautiful and inspirational song!
