Who I Am
Jessica Andrews Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

If I live to be a hundred
And never see the seven wonders
That'll be alright
If I don't make it to the big leagues
If I never win a Grammy
I'm gonna be just fine
'Cause I know exactly who I am

I am Rosemary's granddaughter
The spitting image of my father
And when the day is done
My momma's still my biggest fan
Sometimes I'm clueless and I'm clumsy
But I've got friends who love me
And they know just where I stand
It's all a part of me
And that's who I am

So when I make big mistake
When I fall flat on my face
I know I'll be alright
Should my tender heart be broken
I will cry those teardrops knowin'
I will be just fine
'Cause nothin' changes who I am

I am Rosemary's granddaughter
The spitting image of my father
And when the day is done
My momma's still my biggest fan
Sometimes I'm clueless and I'm clumsy
But I've got friends who love me
And they know just where I stand
It's all a part of me
And that's who I am

I'm a saint and I'm a sinner
I'm a loser, I'm a winner
I'm am steady and unstable
I am young but I'm able

I am Rosemary's granddaughter
The spitting image of my father
And when the day is done
My momma's still my biggest fan
Sometimes I'm clueless and I'm clumsy
But I've got friends who love me
And they know just where I stand
It's all a part of me
And that's who I am

I am Rosemary's granddaughter
The spitting image of my father
And when the day is done
My momma's still my biggest fan
Sometimes I'm clueless and I'm clumsy
But I've got friends who love me
And they know just where I stand
It's all a part of me
And that's who I am

I am, and have done so probably a dozen times this year, not to mention the hundreds of times in the last decade.
While that may be due to the fact that what is today's standard for 'music' hurts those with a sense of sound and clarity of listening purpose, some of us like to hear and understand lyrics that tell a story and make sense without all the synthesized garbage that passes as 'music' these days.

My mother Rosemary died at the young age of 39 from cancer. I was her only daughter out of 4 children. I was 20 at that time. Now I have a daughter and I play this song for her all the time and will be playing it at my daughter's Quinceanera in a few weeks during a slide show. Everyone will definitely be crying especially me. Thank you for this beautiful song!
