The Bronze
Queens of the Stone Age Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Waiting under things that rise in the morning
I been holding
Holding back so long
You can own it
Take it off my hands, do me a favor
Nothin' wasted
Just finger fucked and busted up all at once
I'm so lost out on the highway
With no direction left to go
Everyday sit up and wonder
Where it was I started from
The more you've found, the less you've been around.
In Queens of the Stone Age's song The Bronze, the lyrics talk about a feeling of being lost, both physically and emotionally. The song opens with the singer waiting under things that rise in the morning, possibly referring to the sunrise. This waiting could also represent a sense of stagnation in the singer's life, waiting for something to happen or change. The second line, "Holding back so long," further emphasizes this feeling of being stuck or trapped. It's possible that the singer is holding back their own potential or desires, but the lyrics don't give any specific indication.
The chorus of the song talks about giving up this burden, with the line "You can own it, take it off my hands, do me a favor." This could represent the singer wanting to pass their troubles onto someone else or simply wanting a fresh start. The next line, "Nothin' wasted, just finger fucked and busted up all at once," is a bit more ambiguous. It's unclear what specifically is being referred to, but it could represent a feeling of being used or abused in some way. The final lines of the chorus are perhaps the most poignant: "I'm so lost out on the highway with no direction left to go/Everyday sit up and wonder where it was I started from." These lines speak to a sense of aimlessness and confusion, not knowing what path to take or how to find their way back to a starting point.
The final line, "The more you've found, the less you've been around," is a bit cryptic but could reflect the idea that the more you accumulate or achieve, the more isolated you become. It's possible that the singer has found success or achieved certain goals, but in doing so, they've lost touch with their true self or the people and things that really matter.

My favorite song by the band. For years. So powerful, melodic and tragic.
Pure masterpiece and genius here.

One of the best guitar solos in my opinion. If the rest of the world decides to not explore the depth of QOTSA, then that's more for us. This is what should be played on the radio - not generic rubbish that vanishes after a month. This band, and, more notably this song, is timeless.

Yes. Their music does not fear to explore, and thus through sonic notions can confess what humans need: to be challenged, not only by the ear, but in the expression of the difficult task of change, to fight mental and physical laziness. The movement of these grooves, the cunning way of avoiding sounding so generic urges humanity to bask in the ever-present task of planting and stepping on and replanting new turf, and not to grasp hopelessly at the sad familiar lie.

A lot of music tends to get caught in the tire rut doesn't it? Nickelback are talented, but man, it's so predictable. Generic chorus, generic riffs and rhythms. Typical radio junk. Very few solos anymore in many rock songs.
