Cry Me a River
Julie London Lyrics
Now you say you're lonely
You cry the whole night thorough
Well, you can cry me a river, cry me a river
I cried a river over you
Now you say you're sorry
For bein' so untrue
Well, you can cry me a river, cry me a river
I cried a river over you
You drove me, nearly drove me out of my head
While you never shed a tear
Remember, I remember all that you said
Told me love was too plebeian
Told me you were through with me and
Now you say you love me
Well, just to prove you do
Come on and cry me a river, cry me a river
I cried a river over you
I cried a river over you
I cried a river over you
I cried a river over you

Now you say you're lonely
You cry the whole night through
Well, you can cry me a river, cry me a river
I cried a river over you
Now you say you're sorry
For bein' so untrue
Well, you can cry me a river, cry me a river
I cried a river over you
You drove me, nearly drove me out of my head
While you never shed a tear
Remember, I remember all that you said
Told me love was too plebeian
Told me you were through with me and
Now you say you love me
Well, just to prove you do
Come on and cry me a river, cry me a river
I cried a river over you
I cried a river over you
I cried a river over you
I cried a river over you

Now you say you're lonely
You cried the long night through
Well, you can cry me a river, cry me a river
I cried a river over you
Now you say you're sorry
For being so untrue
Well, you can cry me a river, cry me a river
I cried, a river over you
You drove me, nearly drove me, out of my head
While you never shed a tear
Remember, I remember, all that you said
You told me love was too plebeian
Told me you were through with me and
Now you say, you say you love me
Well, just to prove that you do
Come on and cry me a river, cry me a river
'Cause I cried a river over you
You drove me, nearly drove me, out of my head
While you never shed a tear
Remember, remember, all that you said
Told me love was too plebeian
Told me you were through with me and
Now, now you say you love me
Well, just to prove you do
Come on and cry, cry, cry me a river, cry me a river
'Cause I cried a river over you
If my pillow could talk, imagine what it would have said
Could it be a river of tears I cried in bed?
So you can cry me a river
Daddy, go ahead and cry that river
'Cause I cried, how I cried a river over you
How I cried a river over you

In my head, V survives. He goes back to Evey but she's obviously pissed because she's been hurt and has already mourned losing him.
"No more lies, you said. Yet you lied about dying, too!"
So she shuts him off even though he tries to explain. V eventually comes home to the Shadow Gallery and plays a song in the Jukebox to distract himself. He doesn't look, and just presses a button. It plays this song, as if spitting out the unspoken bitter words of Evey. He doesn't believe in coincidences-- never had. So, determined not to give up, he does what he is best at doing. He plans of ways he can win her back, poring over strategically manipulating events that will bring them together (a broken elevator at her work, maybe? And-- oh, hello Evey! Fancy seeing you here. I was also about to attend a gathering here that absolutely no one has invited me to. How have you been doing?), and rehearsing the words he would say. He thought of using lines from books, but knows that being vague about his point may probably anger her more.
It is in the middle of this that she catches him, coming to a stop at the entrance of the living room and staring at him as he is apologizing to his "fat metal friend". He notices her not too long after and wishes for the train's existence, hoping for it to hit him and take him away from this embarrassing predicament.
"I heard all of that." She simply states while trying to maintain a straight face. She fails, the upward tilt of the corners of her mouth being a dead give-away, and V feels like now he REALLY wants to die.
"Why don't we have some tea?" She commands more than suggests. All he could do was to follow her to his kitchen and set the kettle to boil while thinking with nervous apprehension that this is going to be a long night.

"According to Hamilton, he and Julie London had been high school classmates, and she contacted him on behalf of her husband, Jack Webb, who was the film's director and was looking for new songs for its soundtrack." (Wikipedia)

Her singing makes me want to go a jazz club late at night and have a smoke

@bos bro Wow, that was a good short story.
Fast forward, 5 years into the marriage: Standing at the window of your hotel room, looking down at the people down below on the sidewalk, wondering what it is you really want. What it is you never seem to get. The phone rings. "Honey, come back. I didn't mean what I said." Long pause.

@John A. You can still smoke in jazz clubs. There is a gorgeous historic jazz club in Detroit called Cliff Bell's. They have live performances every night and a cigar bar. I am lucky to live only 25 minutes away 😍
