Amaranth
Nightwish Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Baptized with the perfect name
The doubting one by heart
Alone, without himself

War between him and the day
Need someone to blame
In the end, little he can do alone

You believe but what you see
You receive but what you give

Caress the one
The Never-Fading rain
In your heart
To tears of snow-white sorrow
Caress the one
The hiding amaranth
In a land of the daybreak

Apart from the wandering pack
In this brief flight of time
We reach for the ones, whoever dare

You believe but what you see
You receive but what you give

Caress the one
The Never-Fading rain
In your heart
To tears of snow-white sorrow
Caress the one
The hiding amaranth
In a land of the daybreak

Reaching, searching
For something untouched
Hearing voices of the Never-Fading calling

Caress the one
The Never-Fading rain
In your heart
To tears of snow-white sorrow
Caress the one
The hiding amaranth
In a land of the daybreak

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Nightwish's Amaranth seem to be about a person who is struggling to find their place in the world. The first stanza describes this person as "Baptized with the perfect name," suggesting that they were given a name that should have set them on a certain path in life, but they are instead "The doubting one by heart." This person is alone, but at war with themselves and the world around them. They need someone to blame for their troubles, but in the end, they can only rely on themselves.

The chorus speaks to the idea of belief and receiving. The singer is urged to "Caress the one / The Never-Fading rain / In your heart / To tears of snow-white sorrow" and "Caress the one / The hiding amaranth / In a land of the daybreak." The Never-Fading rain and hiding amaranth are metaphors for something pure and untouched, something that can be believed in and received. The tears of snow-white sorrow suggest that this belief is a painful one, but it is still important to hold onto.

The final stanza continues this theme of searching for something untouched, and hearing the voices of the Never-Fading calling. Overall, the song seems to be about the struggle to find meaning and purpose in life, and the importance of believing in something, even if it is painful to do so.

Some people like Anette, some might prefer Tarja or Floor. But deep inside we all know Marco was the true queen of nightwish

Tarja was the reason we all like Nightwish. Floor is the reason they gained new popularity. But this particular song with Anette will always be my absolute favorite. It's contemporary, it's short & sweet yet heavy and hella melodic. She owns on this song.

@YOURRACHINAPRIL

Agreed!

@Under-Kaoz

Floor was the end of them 😭

@mademoisellecaroline6729

No one sould ever replace a TARJA ! ! I'm not talking about the boys. .
