Spanish Sahara
Foals Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

So I walked into the haze
And a million dirty waves
Now I see you lying there
Like a lilo losing air, air

Black rocks and the shoreline surf
Still dead summer I cannot bear
And I wipe the sand from my eyes
The Spanish Sahara, the place that you'd wanna
Leave the horror here

Forget the horror here
Forget the horror here
Leave it all down here
It's future rust and it's future dust

Forget the horror here
Forget the horror here
Leave it all down here
It's future rust and it's future dust

Now the waves they drag you down
Carry you to broken ground
But I'll find you in the sand
Wipe you clean with dirty hands

So God damn this boiling space
The Spanish Sahara, the place that you'd wanna
Leave the horror here

Forget the horror here
Forget the horror here
Leave it all down here
It's future rust and it's future dust

I'm the fury in your head
I'm the fury in your bed
I'm the ghost in the back of your head
'Cause I am

I'm the fury in your head
I'm the fury in your bed
I'm the ghost in the back of your head
'Cause I am

I'm the fury in your head
I'm the fury in your bed
I'm the ghost in the back of your head
'Cause I am

Forget the horror here
Forget the horror here
Leave it all down here
It's future rust, it's future dust

A choir of furies in your head
A choir of furies in your bed
I'm the ghost in the back of your head
'Cause I am

A choir of furies in your head
A choir of furies in your bed
I'm the ghost in the back of your head
'Cause I am

A choir of furies in your head
A choir of furies in your bed
I'm the ghost in the back of your head
'Cause I am

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Foals's song Spanish Sahara paint a picture of a hopeless and desolate environment as the singer stumbles into an incomprehensible haze. He observes a million dirty waves, black rocks, and the shoreline surf. He then sees someone he loves lying there, like a lilo losing air. At this point, the singer is struggling to make sense of what he sees around him. He's lost in a world of despair he seeks to leave behind. He tries to wipe the sand from his eyes and leaves a place that he wants to leave behind - the Spanish Sahara - where the horror should remain.

The singer repeats the phrase "Forget the horror here. Leave it all down here. It's future rust, and it's future dust," driving home the idea that this is where the horror belongs in moments like this. The song conveys a sense of loss and despair. Despite everything that is happening around them, the singer desperately wants to find the person they love and dirties their hands as they search through the sand.

Overall, the song creates a vivid idea of a tragedy that is taking place in an isolated and barren land. The singer wants to leave the horror behind, and as they search for hope, they find the strength to keep going.

The greatest friendship I have ever seen. Finished BTS and LIS last week and I have been beaten over the head with emotions, still reeling trying to process the meaning, morality.
I was lucky enough to play BTS before playing LIS even though I was aware LIS is where most of us started. I ignored this game for years because I was not in the head space to play and when I did mess around with it, I only journeyed a few mins into it, completely unaware what this story held and completely getting the wrong impression what I was in for after deciding to fully play.

I decided to play in chronological order instead of release and that was a combo of pain back to back.

The last set of games to grab a hold of my conscious this profoundly was Mass Effect 1-3 but LIS is in a whole other category because it's realistically relatable.

We all know it's a game but after being immersed in a world where the characters feel like family, growing attached to their personalities is equally enjoyable as losing one.

This song is a flurry of emotion bringing back that final scene we all know so well and dread wishing it could be changed one final time for the better and giving a girl some peace instead of sorrow.

[[ Lol I love the bit about the past. Yes, welcome travelers from the past. ]]

Very glad you can relate. I really wish there was some kind of advisory for first time players to play in Chronological order.

Many people on Reddit for some reason advise against this but I think it is a must or at least a recommendation before playing.

It doesn't take away or spoil anything and I personally find it adds more suspense. Deepens that mystery when going into Lis Original.

I also played Captain Spirit before LIS2.
Now if you like going into games blind and not knowing anything like myself, that might give away some slight things but it actually spoils nothing. If anything, it added more questions when loading into LIS2.

The DLC for LIS TC will spoil that game for you a little bit story wise so I definitely suggest playing TC all the way through first.
Wish I could play them all for the first time again.

Looking forward to the next LIS game. Hopefully it drops soon!

Yes. Nothing official though. All of it is rumors from a supposed play tester who leaked info to another person.

There is a channel named DomTheBomb who covers that info along with other youtubers.

Careful though, I believe there is spoilers on the other games in their videos so I would complete all the LIS games just to be safe.

I spoiled myself on something from the True Colors game like an idiot being nosy on youtube.

@OhYeeeah

Thank you Dontnod Entertainment for creating this Masterpiece.
I smiled, laughed and cried. This is the Best Game i've ever played in my Life.
There are to less games then "Life Is Strange" Definitly my GOTY 2015, 2016 and so on.
Just a beautiful Game with great atmosphere, voice acting and a lot of feelings. For now i don't even want a Season 2.
I'm happy with it like it is.
