Whistling Girl
Woven Hand Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Among his flock of sheep
In a flow of words
Lay breathing backward rest assured
Of Elijah and God's birds
It will fall to us
It will fall to us
Inside the home the folk pine grow
Where hearts are fire sparks are thrown
It is all that glitters
This terrible weakness
It falls to us
It falls to us
From his holy hill
And it falls to us
Yes it falls to us
By his perfect will
Through the open windows of the soul tonight
His yoke is easy and his burden light
Kiss the sun lest he be angry
And you perish in the way
The rivers of the sky are dry
And rolled up like a scroll
Down below we tend to the forgetting
Forgetting what we know
The sun slips from your shoulder
As you enter in the wood
Without thought of thorns
Without thought of thorns
And it falls to us
It falls to us
From his holy hill
It will falls to us
Yes it falls to us
By his perfect will
Through the open windows of your soul tonight
His yoke is easy and his burden light
Kiss the sun lest he be angry
And you perish in the way
The opening verse talks about a girl who is whistling amid a flock of sheep. Her carefree attitude is juxtaposed with darker themes such as references to Elijah and God's birds. The song then shifts to a conversation about the idea of home being the place where hearts are on fire and sparks are thrown. The sense of struggle and confusion is palpable in the line "It is all that glitters, This terrible weakness". The lyrics suggest that it is the responsibility of humans to carry on the purpose of the divine. The repetition of "It falls to us" reinforces this idea. The song then leads to a deeper exploration of the soul and the importance of being mindful in order to not lose oneself.
The song is a meditation on life and death, faith and responsibility, and the idea of being present in the world. The references to Elijah and the flock of sheep suggest that the song is rooted in biblical and Christian traditions. However, the song also touches upon more universal themes of love, hope, and the struggle to make sense of the world. The line "His yoke is easy and his burden light" is a direct reference to the teachings of Jesus Christ. The song ends on a note of caution, suggesting that we should be careful not to lose sight of our purpose and to be mindful of our journey as we move through life.

A whistling girl
A girl who whistles
Among his flock of sheep
In the midst of the sheep he tends
In a flow of words
Amidst a stream of speech

It will fall to us
We will be responsible for it
Inside the home the folk pine grow
Inside the house, people long and yearn
Where hearts are fire sparks are thrown

And it falls to us
We are responsible for it
From his holy hill
From where God resides
Yes it falls to us
Indeed, we must take care of it
By his perfect will
According to God's perfect plan
Through the open windows of the soul tonight
Through the vulnerable parts of oneself tonight
His yoke is easy and his burden light
His teachings and guidance are not difficult to bear
Kiss the sun lest he be angry
Worship the sun or incur his wrath
And you perish in the way
And meet your demise on your journey
The rivers of the sky are dry
The skies are devoid of moisture
And rolled up like a scroll
And tightly rolled like a scroll
Down below we tend to the forgetting
Below, we have a tendency to forget
Forgetting what we know
Ignoring what we are aware of
The sun slips from your shoulder
The sun leaves your side
As you enter in the wood
As you venture into the forest
Without thought of thorns
Without considering the thorny obstacles
And it falls to us
We are responsible for it
It falls to us
We must take care of it
From his holy hill
From where God resides
Yes it falls to us
Indeed, we must take care of it
By his perfect will
According to God's perfect plan
Through the open windows of your soul tonight
Through the vulnerable parts of oneself tonight
His yoke is easy and his burden light
His teachings and guidance are not difficult to bear

3 days ago I saw this man performing at Paradiso, Amsterdam. He was great as ever. Darker than ever before. But so religious and mystic and human at the same time. The songs from the new album were beautiful. I bought the album after the show. I haven't had the time to listen closely to it. But tonight I will. The new album is called: The Treshingfloor. For those who think: that kinda music is bad for the soul, it isn't. It brightens up, and fills my heart with Grace.
