All of This
The Naked and Famous Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I can't begin to explain
How we disassemble
The parts and frame
Maybe it's the same late morning?
The same no show?
It's the same fucking habits
I guess we don't know

All of this is tearing us apart
I don't know where us or this start
All of this is tearing us apart
I don't know where us or this start

If there's anyone near when we collide
We throw them in the middle
They can pick sides
As the plans turn into compromise
The promises all turn to lies
The spite builds up and it can't get through
Passive me aggressive you

I know I nag, I moan I know
But with a plan like this it's way too slow
In the time it took to get this bad
I could have made this work but all I had was
The hope that pieces would take shape
And we could watch them all fall into place

Fall into place
Fall into place
Fall into place
Fall into place

All of this is tearing us apart
I don't know where us or this start
All of this is tearing us apart
I don't know where us or this start

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to The Naked and Famous's "All of This" can be interpreted as a reflection on a relationship that is falling apart due to a lack of communication and understanding. The opening lines depict the frustration felt by one or both parties in trying to make sense of their struggles, as the "parts and frame" of their individual perspectives are unable to assemble into a functioning whole. The repetition of "same" suggests that this is pattern that has occurred countless times before, and the implication is that both people are repeating unhelpful behaviours that prevent them from breaking the cycle.

As the song progresses, it becomes clear that the relationship is under strain due to a lack of compromise and an unwillingness to acknowledge the other person's point of view. Even when faced with outsiders who might be able to help mediate, these two individuals throw them "in the middle" and refuse to take responsibility for the conflict. The lyrics also suggest that one person is more passive while the other is aggressive, causing resentment to build up further. The singer acknowledges their own flaws and tendency to "nag" and "moan," but maintains that there is potential for things to work out if only they could fall "into place."

Overall, "All of This" presents a poignant picture of a relationship that is crumbling under the weight of unresolved issues, with both parties struggling to find a way forward.

Stop eating meat of all kinds, stop eating anything artificial, modified, eat healthy. Like real food. Not gmo. Stop eating junk food. And bad sugars. Such as everything in candy. Your gut biome is a real thing. Im trying my best and will always welcome healthy advice.

I'm just binging on their music.. I've always loved "Young Blood" but since I heard "Girls Like You" I've been addicted. This band is sooooo good.

@ChattGM

Exactly how I felt when I first discovered. I always heard Young Blood used but never knew who sang it and then when I finally heard it again in the pilot episode of The Secret Circle I looked up their music after that and from then they became one of my favorite bands to listen too. I love the video to Girls Like You. Love how all the lights match up to the beat. I think that's just brilliance. How can you not feel it when your seeing that.

I heard Young Blood driving home from work on the radio. Girls Like You is a superb song. I think it is their 2nd best song. Higher is my favorite track.
