Let's Ride
Kid Rock Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Bruised and abused on some foreign soil
Trained to kill baby, that's what we do
And programmed to bleed red, white and blue
C'mon and grab your guns, let's ride
And may your conscience be your guide
I'll say a prayer for you to make it through to the other side
Tonight's the night, we fight or die
Grab your guns son, said we headed for war
Like your uncle JT done years before
No pussy, no dope, this ain't Saigon
But keep your heads up for roadside bombs
C'mon and grab your guns, let's ride
And may your conscience be your guide
I'll say a prayer for you to make it through to the other side
Tonight's the night, we fight or die
Even in darkness, you're my strength, my soul, my will to survive
But in this fight I stand ready to die
C'mon and grab your guns, let's ride
And may your conscience be your guide
I'll say a prayer for you to make it through to the other side
Tonight's the night, tonight's the night
C'mon and grab your guns, let's ride
And may your conscience be your guide
C'mon
C'mon
C'mon
C'mon
C'mon
C'mon, yeah
Oh oh oh oh whoa
Oh oh oh oh whoa
Oh oh oh oh whoa
Oh oh oh oh whoa
Oh oh oh oh whoa
Oh oh oh oh whoa
Oh oh oh oh whoa
The lyrics of "Let's Ride" by Kid Rock describe a soldier's experience of war. The opening lines suggest that soldiers are used as scapegoats and treated as expendable. They are sent to foreign soil, where they are subjected to physical abuse and trained to kill. The soldiers are programmed to believe in their country and its flag, and they are expected to bleed red, white, and blue in the name of patriotism. The repeated refrain of "grab your guns, let's ride" represents the soldiers' militaristic mindset and their readiness to engage in battle. The singer seems to be advocating for a form of machismo and an us-vs-them mentality, insisting that "tonight's the night, we fight or die." The lyrics convey a sense of disillusionment with the military, as well as a deep patriotism and sense of duty towards one's country.
Moreover, the line "like your uncle JT done years before" references Kid Rock's own uncle who served in the military, adding a personal connection and authenticity to the song. The lyrics could be interpreted as a commentary on the effects of war on soldiers and how conflict can shape one's identity, politics, and worldview. The song suggests that soldiers are trained to be instruments of violence, and the call to action is couched in violent imagery, such as "keep your heads up for roadside bombs." Still, the guitar-heavy and anthemic melody of the song offers an uplifting and empowering quality, expressing the warrior spirit of soldiers and their commitment to their country.

As a 47 yr old father of 2 boys serving and protecting our country, I can't thank my Michigan Brother.... Kid Rock enough for supporting our troops and making another video which depicts the struggles and harms our troops go through, so we as Americans can go on with our seemingly meaningless lives. Rock On KID!!!
