La vie en rose
Louis Armstrong Lyrics

Hold me close and hold me fast
The magic spell you cast
This is la vie en rose

When you kiss me, Heaven sighs
And though I close my eyes
I see la vie en rose

When you press me to your heart
And in a world apart
A world where roses bloom

And when you speak
Angels sing from above
Every day words
Seems to turn into love songs

Give your heart and soul to me
And life will always be
La vie en rose

My grandfather passed from lung cancer when I was 11. I was in 6th grade, if I remember correctly.

But before that happened, I was required to pick a wind instrument for my music class at my elementary school. I picked trumpet, and my gramps lent me his. Because of his help, I didn't have to rent an instrument like the rest of my classmates. Before he sent me home the day I went to his house to go pick up that trumpet, he pulled a second one from his closet, a tiny purple one with plenty of sparkly paint. Definitely something you won't forget, even after seeing it only once. He showed me how to actually use a trumpet, me using his brass one, him on his purple one- how to even produce noise through the mouthpiece (which is pretty tough for a beginner).

I never ended up becoming proficient with the trumpet, but I ended up returning it to my grandmother after I was finished borrowing it. It's also worth noting my grandfather lent me his acoustic dreadnought before he was diagnosed with lung cancer. Thankfully, that is one instrument I became decently skilled at, inspiring me to eventually purchase a Les Paul of my own. I went on to learn all of Slash's lead parts off of Guns N' Roses' "Appetite For Destruction" by the time I was 17.

I'm 20, now. A few months ago, I was visiting my grandmother. She told me I was free to take home any of the musical instruments he had left behind in his closet. There weren't many left, as she had given most away to other family members. But tucked away in a corner was a small black case with- the very same purple trumpet I had first seen almost 10 years ago in the hands of my grandfather. It was just us- me and my gramps sitting in his room, him teaching me my first notes on the trumpet. What I'd give just to spend another day with that amazing man. I think we all know which item I chose to take home with me that day.

The trumpet on this rendition of "La Vie En Rose" helped me think back on all this. I really wish my grandpa could see what I've been able to accomplish with the guitar he lent to me all those years ago.

I miss you, gramps.

My crush sent this to me once saying "if i send you a song would you tell me if its good?" I used to listen to it everynight before sleeping.
I tried my best to play this song on guitar which was not easy, to get her attention obviously. It worked and we started talking more.
She is my girlfriend now, and to this day i listen to her sing this when i cant fall asleep. ❤️ This song got us closer.

My very talented friend, Acoustic master musician, Adam Pearce just covered this song on his YouTube channel.. Adam can play anything, and make it look easy, but, it is hard to play on guitar, you say...and not to put down your talent, could you tell me why...I only ask because, I dont know, and by the way, I can not believe all the comments regarding if you and your girlfriend are still together, Music brings alot of people together ❤🎵
