Tunes like this always have a bitter-sweet sensation for me; in the 90s I took far too much acid, ecstasy, speed, pot, cocaine, anything really, and it really fucked my head up. My brother tells me we were physically and mentally abused when we were young but I have no memory of most of my childhood (I have been told this is a sign of childhood trauma). However, listening to these tunes takes me back to a time when I felt a lot of love, empathy and friendship with my fellow pill heads.

Almost 30 years ago I was driving to a new life in L.A. A best friend who grew up on my block lived in S.F. She needed a close friend to buffer a volatile relationship. Soon I was in the middle of some sticky situations but also meeting some both 'colorful' and nice people. I was learning about house music and rave culture and well... X ..It was all both a bit scary (new) but also seductive. S.F. was not as innocent when the fog rolled in Lol.. . As a Seattleite I felt a little like a small town boy. I finally at 30 felt I could really be free and cut loose. I made friends and lived on Mayonnaise and tomato sandwiches. One of her roommates was listening to a way out mix tape. including this song. It was both a little funky and some really good dance songs. I was given this cassette tape that said Doc Martin on it. After a month of 'The end up' Lol.., Adventures, other mind altering experiences I finally got a $50.00 check from my cousin in Glendale for gas and I needed to head south as she was letting me stay until I had a job . I Left with an inch high collection of parking infractions A broken out passenger window (Divisadero & Fulton St.) and a heavy heart leaving my friend, my new friends and a time of my own rules and no one to watch over me and of course my cherished 'Doc Martin Techno-House music Mix tape. It was good to get to my favorite place with Buzzing freeways, palm tree's piercing the sky, people of all kinds and architecture that always surprised me. It was an adventure The riots the Northridge earthquake, O.J.'s televised freeway spectacle, the finding of Silver lake where I left my heart. But My mix tape kept me grooving and I still have the cassette to this day including: 'On the move' by Sonic Solution, 'Feel it' by Coco steel & Lovebomb, 'Nervous Acid' by Bobby Konders, 'Get on up' by The R.A.S.E., 'Charly' & 'Everybody in the house' by The Prodigy, 'Rocking down the house' by MI 7, 'Get funky! by Return of the living acid, 'Way in my brain' by SL2, "Dance with power' by Bass Construction, A 'deeper love' by Clivilles & Cole, 'Psychotropic Hypnosis' by SLD ( regular slow ver.) ' Dance with power' (original Ver.) Bass Construction and a few more I wish I could identify!! Sorry so long!

Some songs during your life really take you back to the person you were and the feeling you had at the time whether you felt good at the time or not, this is one of those.
@monkynuts1261
Wish I could go back way back to the 90's .I don't like now.50 and still love this.

@BalliBee
It's 2020 and I'm still loving this tune... so glad I grew up in a time when music really was music. Love FSOL, they were musical visionaries ahead of their own time 💙🎶💚🌏
@fafski1199
Yep, even today whenever I chill out and listen to their "Lifeforms" Album, I always think it not only sounds well ahead of their time, but also well ahead of music today. They where definitely visionaries. that where no doubt journeying through a higher plane of consciousness, when they produced that masterpiece of an album. Listening to it, is like being on LSD, without taking any LSD.
@blackporscheroadster6415
@@fafski1199 I was with an ex-girlfriend in my student digs in Sheffield University in the early 1990s and I used to have coloured lights and stuff to create an ambience. Anyways, we were in bed and I had Lifeforms on and she started hallucinating, claiming to see faces in the corner of the ceiling, etc. I didn't believe her, but she was adamant.
@fafski1199
@@blackporscheroadster6415 I used to go clubbing fairly regularly in Sheffield throughout the 90's, to clubs like the Palais/Music Factory, Republic/Gatecrasher, Berlins/Uropa and of course the Leadmill (I'm local). In fact the first time I ever heard FSOL was listening to "Papua New Guinea", trippin my tit's off, out clubbing at the Palais, way back in 91'.
@blackporscheroadster6415
@@fafski1199 I saw Andy Weatherall DJ at The Palais in 1994. Shortly after it changed to the Music Factory. It was at the bottom of London Rd. I also saw James Taylor Quartet, which was my first ever live gig at the Leadmill in late '92. I remember going to a funk club on Monday nights called Beluga. I was in that Beluga one Monday night with a new girlfriend. I was going to the toilet and a bouncer just barged me out of the way for no reason. So, I turned round and smacked him in the face and he went flying onto the small dancefloor sat on arse. I then went into the toilet and he came in and had another go. So I hit him again and he fell back into the sink. Then another bouncer came in and pulled me out. I had to gesture to my girlfriend to come with me as two bouncers were dragging me rabbit punching me in the ribs. Then when outside, I spent ten minutes winding the bastards up, saying get a proper job, etc. Those were the days.
@louisrelf5903
Dad played this when I was growing up. Always loved it
@leevweleevwe4813
90s what an era, I’m so happy I was part of it 1991 to 1994 was the best time in my opinion, the music / the people / the raves / and of course the drugs.

@gregorm93
I saw FSOL at the Seattle Bumbershoot Festival in 97. Weirdest gig I've ever been to - everyone sat down against walls, barriers, pillars etc during the songs and just went into a trance. At the end of each song, everyone stood up and applauded, cheered, whistled. Then the next song would start and everyone would sit down again
@vznquest
lol that is totally weird. why not dance?
@gregorm93
+J Quest I don't know! FSOL were brilliant, and that was generally recognized in the rapturous applause they would receive at the end of each song. but the mass sit down ... I've not seen it since James sang the appropriately named "Sit Down"

Mine too I remember recording it from the radio on to a cassette (which iv'e still got) many years ago, think it was off Pete Tongs Essential selection in the early nineties, love it.
@samiamnot8906
What are your others? I find it interesting how electronic music has evolved and it's weird trawling back through aural history here. I was at heaps of parties in the early to late 90's and went from jungle initially to Goa later. Now I particularly like stuff like https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kd1pYDowSeE&t=1733s especially Moon Magnet and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HHHTyhkiTu8 Let me know what you think. I would totally love to know how much these would have impressed me if I heard them back then.
@MrsHemsptress
Positive this is one of the long lost mixtape jams I was obsessed with as a teen. ❤

Whoa, Papua New Guinea?? I've always dreamt of visiting... such a fascinating and beautiful place, and with a certain mystery about it...But seeing as I'm skint it will probably always remain a dream! Hey, at least thanks to the net I can throw myself down a Papua rabbit hole for a few hours, and have the chance of talking to a real Papuan person while I'm here on my island (Britain) looking out at the grey skies and skeletal trees...No place like home 🤔
