Ang Huling El Bimbo
Eraserheads Lyrics

Kamukha mo si Paraluman
Nung tayo ay bata pa
At ang galing galing mong sumayaw
Mapa boogie man o cha cha
Ngunit ang paborito
Ay ang pagsayaw mo ng El Bimbo
Nakakaindak nakakaaliw
Nakakatindig balahibo

Habang tayo'y magkaakbay
At dahang dahang dumudulas
Ang kamay ko sa makinis mong braso

Sana noon pa man ay sinabi na sa iyo
Kahit hindi na uso ay ito lang ang alam ko

Magkahawak ang ating kamay
At walang kamalaymalay
Na tinuruan mo ang puso ko
Na umibig ng tunay

La la la la

At lumipas ang maraming taon
Hindi na tayo nagkita
Balita ko'y may anak ka na
Ngunit walang asawa

TRIVIA:

This song is written by Ely in just only under 5 minutes.
The story is about him and his girl childhood friend.

"Kamukha mo si Paraluman", he described her.
Paraluman is a Filipina-German actress in the Philippines during 1930s or before WW2. Ely is always watching Paraluman's movies when he was younger.
His childhood friend always teach him to dance, especially the El Bimbo dance.

But one day, they didn't met anymore until this day; and he didn't know if she is still alive.

The 1st & 2nd stanzas are real. The 3rd stanza is fantasy.

Took me 27years to remember this song...

Ang Huling El Bimbo
The Last El Bimbo
You looked like Paraluman
When we were kids2
And you were great at dancing
Either boogie man or chacha

But my favorite
Was you dancing El Bimbo
Made me want to dance, so amusing,
gave me goosebumps

REFRAIN 1
Coming from school, I went straight to your place
And the whole day you taught me

CHORUS
Without a care we held hands
You taught my heart how to truly love

My body goes still
When the record spins
I die when I see you move your hips
And the stare of your eyes

My life is brighter
While we are shoulder to shoulder
My hand on your smooth arm

REFRAIN 2
I wish I told you back then
Even though it's old school, it’s what I know

(CHORUS)

La la la la, la la, la la, la la la

Many years passed
And we didn’t see each other
I’ve heard you have a kid now
But no husband

You wash dishes
somewhere near Ermita
And one night you were run over
In a dark alley

Refrain 3
All of my dreams suddenly melted.
I realized that the only way I'll be able to dance with you, is in my dreams.

Explanation of the song for non-Filipino speakers:

The song begins with the singer recalling their childhood. The girl was beautiful and he says she resembled the celebrity Paraluman. The girl taught him to dance Boogie, Cha-cha, to name a few, but her favorite was El Bimbo. He said he was too young to understand but he was in love with the girl. His memories of them together are magical and her presence made the world simply better.

He grew up with his feelings and he regrets that he never told her how he felt.

Years passed, and they lost contact somehow. (Perhaps they are from the province and the girl moved to Manila, our capital). He received news that she is already with child but with no spouse and she was employed as a dishwasher. One fateful night she met her untimely end after being run over in a vehicular accident at a poorly lit street.

The singer's hopes and dreams with her are completely obliterated. He will now only be ever to dance with her in his dreams.
