Autobahn 66
Primal Scream Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Dreaming, dreaming
Seeing, seeing
Dreaming, dreaming
Dreaming, dreaming

Dreaming, I'm still dreaming
Dreaming my life 'til the day that I die
Dreaming my life 'til the day that I die
Seeing, always seeing
Colour so beautiful, softer than sin
Colour so beautiful, softer than sin

Dreaming, I'm still dreaming
Dreaming my life 'til the day that I die
Dreaming my life 'til the day that I die
Seeing, always seeing
Colour so beautiful, softer than sin
Colour so beautiful, softer than sin

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Primal Scream's song Autobahn 66 reveal the theme of the song as being trapped in a dream-like state, where the singer is constantly dreaming and seeing things that are beautiful and enticing. The repetition of the words "dreaming" and "seeing" emphasize the importance of these states of mind and how they consume the singer's thoughts and emotions. The beauty of the colors that are seen are described as being "softer than sin", which suggests a temptation or desire that the singer is struggling with.

The repetition of the lyrics "dreaming my life 'til the day that I die" implies that the singer is not fully participating in their reality, but rather living in a state of constant dreaming. This could be a metaphor for the escapism that people experience in their lives, whether it be through drugs, alcohol, or other means. The idea that the colors seen are "softer than sin" suggests that the dream state is more alluring and satisfying than reality, even if it is not tangible or sustainable.

Overall, Autobahn 66 seems to be a commentary on the human experience of wanting to escape reality and live in a dream-like state, where one can experience beauty and pleasure without the consequences of the real world. It is a reminder that while these states of mind can be enticing, they are ultimately fleeting and can lead to a disconnection from reality.

Incredible..reminds me of Kraftwerk and The Beatles..fucking wicked.

@TFFgeek

Very nice homage to Kraftwerk, Autobahn being their landmark record. And obviously Autobahn 66 is a Kraftwerkian translation of Route 66. Love it.
