Eskimo
Red Hot Chili Peppers Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

In the name of it's for you I
Bought it all and it's all untrue I
Know, I'm a little slow
Desperate and it shows

In the name of spending street
Burning bush and a busted knee you
Stole, all the rain and snow

Who will be my Eskimo
It's what I wanna know
It's time to undergo
Somewhere in Mexico
I'm making room for you
A simple point of view
Someone too deeper to

Aw
Searching for an Eskimo
Searching and I wanna know, someone, like you
What did they say
Desperate and I gotta go
Searching for an Eskimo, someone, like you

In the name of Jesus Christ I
Sold my son and I named my price I
Sold, just a little love

Who will be my Eskimo
That's what I wanna know
Before I undergo
Somewhere in Mexico
I'm making room for you
A simple point of view
Someone too deeper to

Ooooooh aw
Searching for an Eskimo
Searching and I wanna know, someone, like you
Hey, hey, hey
Desperate and I gotta go
Searching for an Eskimo, someone, like you

In the name of Oscar Wilde I
Saw the mess and I saw he smiled I
Go, toe to toe in the whole, world to find an Eskimo

Overall Meaning

The lyrics in Red Hot Chili Peppers’ song “Eskimo” are enigmatic and challenging to interpret, as they seem to be a stream of consciousness reflection on a past relationship and profound loneliness. The lyrics begin by stating that the singer purchased something for someone, only to realize that none of it was actually true. They know that they are slow and desperate, and it shows. The longing for a companion who can understand them is evident in the repeated refrain of “who will be my Eskimo?”

The second verse continues with a sense of searching and desperation, as the singer refers to a “burning bush and a busted knee” and accuses someone of stealing the rain and snow. They continue to lament their solitary state and pose the question once again: who will be their Eskimo? The pre-chorus and chorus repeat this question and express a deep longing for companionship with someone who is like them – someone they describe as having a “simple point of view” yet being “too deep.”

The final verse interestingly brings up the names of Jesus Christ and Oscar Wilde. The singer mentions selling their son in the name of Jesus and seeing a mess that made Oscar Wilde smile. The verse ends by stating that they want to go “toe to toe in the whole world to find an Eskimo.” Overall, the lyrics of “Eskimo” convey themes of loneliness, longing, and a search for someone with a deep understanding of the singer’s inner self.

Ok...this has to be my favorite of all Chili Pepper songs. Anthony's voice with so much feeling and a fantastic John guitar with drums. Someone really does not know how to pick their best for albums. These B-sides are beautiful and need a record of their own...

@javiermunoz7391

Yeah. Eskimo is delicious, smooth, groovy but heavy.
