Drifter in the Dark
Ween Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Do you ever walk alone?
Like a drifter in the dark
Seeking out what isn't there
Looking only for a spark

From a girl who's all alone
Maybe she's a-driftin' too
Like a shadow in the night
Waitin' just to meet with you

And then perhaps in love you'll stay
Or fall and go your separate ways
Still searchin' for a spark
Like a drifter in the dark

[Repeat: x8]
Doodn doo doo doodn doo (da da da da da)

Do you ever walk alone?
Like a drifter in the dark
Seeking out what isn't there
Looking only for a spark

[Repeat: x4]
Like a drifter in the dark

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Ween's song "Drifter in the Dark" speak to the experience of feeling lost and seeking connections with others. The opening lines ask a rhetorical question to the listener, asking if they have ever walked alone in the dark, seeking something that isn't quite tangible, something that can only be described as a spark. This is a feeling that many people can relate to, an urge to find something more meaningful in life and reach out to others who may feel the same. The song suggests that sometimes we may feel like we are drifting or wandering aimlessly, but we are not alone in this feeling.

The second verse focuses on the idea of finding connection with another person, particularly a woman who may also be a "drifter" seeking the same spark. The lyrics suggest that this connection may lead to love or may ultimately end in separation, but the desire to seek out that spark and connection remains a constant. The repetitive chorus drives home the idea that this experience of being a "drifter in the dark" is a universal one, a feeling that can bring people together and connect them in unexpected ways.

Overall, "Drifter in the Dark" is a poignant reflection on the human experience of seeking and striving for connections with others, and the commonality of feeling lost and adrift at times.

This is my favorite song by ween, I have such fond memories of listening to ween and this album in particular. I recently started to go down the rabbit hole of unreleased ween songs and demos. Thanks for posting all these songs

This is a good one. Hope ya made it to Caesar Demos. The demo Chocolate Town on that is my favorite Ween tune... currently... I think. Tough call with Big Jilm, and a few others, out there!
