Lost
Frank Ocean Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Double D
Big full breast on my baby (yo we goin' to Florida)
Triple weight
Couldn't weigh the love I've got for the girl
And I just wanna know
Why you ain't been goin' to work
Boss ain't workin' ya like this
He can't take care of you like this

Now you're lost
Lost in the heat of it all
Girl, you know you're lost
Lost in the thrill of it all
Miami, Amsterdam
Tokyo, Spain, lost
Los Angeles, India
Lost on a train, lost

Got on my butter cream (there he goes)
Silk shirt and it's Versace (one of God's own prototypes)
Hand me my triple weight
So I can weigh the work I got on your girl (too weird to live, too rare to die)
No I don't really wish
I don't wish the titties would show
Nor have I ever
Have I ever let you get caught?

Uh
Lost
Lost in the heat of it all
Girl, you know you're lost
Lost in the thrill of it all
Miami, Amsterdam
Tokyo, Spain, lost
Los Angeles, India
Lost on a train, lost

She's at a stove (who?)
Can't believe I got her out here cookin' dope (cookin' dope)
I promise she'll be
Whippin' meals up for a family of her own some day
Nothin' wrong (nothin' wrong
No nothin' wrong with a lie (ain't nothin' wrong)
Nothin' wrong with another short plane ride (ain't nothin' wrong)
Through the sky (up in the sky)
You and I (just you and I) are lost

Lost
Lost in the heat of it all
Girl you know you're lost
Lost in the thrill of it all
Miami, Amsterdam
Tokyo, Spain, lost
Los Angeles, India
Lost on a train, lost

Love lost, lost
Love love,
Love lost, lost
Love love
Love lost
Love love
Love lost

Overall Meaning

In Frank Ocean's song Lost, the artist sings about a woman he is deeply in love with. The opening lyrics talk about the girl's body, with the singer noting the size of her breasts and commenting that he loves her more than anything. He questions why she isn't going to work, and references her boss not caring for her the way he does. The song then moves to the chorus, with Ocean singing about the girl being lost in the "heat" and "thrill" of life. The cities mentioned, Miami, Amsterdam, Tokyo, and others, are all associated with excess and wild energy.

The second verse again centers around the singer's love for the girl. He describes his expensive clothing and jewelry, and states that he is "weighing" his love for her the same way he would measure work. The line "too weird to live, too rare to die" is a reference to writer Hunter S. Thompson, and speaks to the intensity of feeling present in the song. The end of the verse seems to reference the girl becoming involved in drug dealing, with the singer promising she'll be cooking for her own family someday.

The final chorus repeats the idea of the girl being lost, and the outro repeats the word "love" several times before fading out. Overall, the song seems to explore the idea of being overwhelmed by passion and desire, with the girl in question perhaps losing herself in chaos and excess.
